As a guy who attended the community event and got to play this bad boy, I think 8.9 is actually the perfect score.
And I despise IGN reviews (though I always read them for info).
Madden 10, IMO, is that bridge year between mediocrity and near greatness. Ian Cummings and his posse have the right idea, but they have to do a lot to correct the crap that was Madden 06-09 next-gen.
To do that in one year is impossible.
Frankly, I wish they had the resources for a team to create a completely new game from scratch, but that's simply not possible in this economy.
My gut tells me Madden 11 will be a 9.5 game if Frazier, Cummings and their lackeys are allowed to continue in this sim direction. Only thing stopping them is sales.
