First NBA Memory?

What is your first memory of watching the NBA? When you were little or something along the lines of that?

First thing I remember was Jordan's game winning shot over the Cavs. My dad had that recorded on VHS and played it all the time.

Here I go putting a date on myself again. My first real NBA memory was seeing Dr. J dunk on Bill Walton.

The first game I really remember was a couple years later when Magic went nuts in game 6 of the finals as a rookie, starting at center in place of the injured Kareem (thoughts & prayers to him) & scoring 42 points.

My first memory is right after MJ returned from baseball.

Going to a Bullets game with my pops. Also going to a Georgetown game to see Iverson.

I'm not sure of the game but this what made me become a NEts fan.

Drazen PEtrovic one game just went off from 3...went BEZERK...at that time I was living in NJ and receiving cable for the 1st time. I fell in love with the Nets after that.

I think it was 1978, when Daryl Dawkins shattered the rim at the Spectrum against the Kansas City Kings, I think. And yes, I am an old fuck...lol.

First thing I remember was Jordan's game winning shot over the Cavs. My dad had that recorded on VHS and played it all the time.

It all started with that shot for me too. My elementary PE class watched "His Airness" or whatever the video was at the time, and I saw him hit that runner over Craig Ehlo.

That was around the same year I started getting into the Hawks, which Craig Ehlo was now player for. He and Jon Koncak were my favorite players. Later I realized they were both stiffs. Koncak did have a really hot daughter however.

As for the shot...I think I was in middle school at the time I think. I just knew we had that game won after the inbound give and go play with Ehlo (which was a hell of a play at the time) and then MJ showed his ass. I sat there on my bed in shock.

My first memory was the Sixers first playoff run of the Iverson era. It was a lockout-shortened year and the Sixers upset the Magic in the first round of the playoffs. I believe this was 1999. They got swept by the Pacers the next round but it was my first real memory of Sixers success.

The dark years before that (Shawn Bradley, Clearance Weatherspoon) I try to block from my mind. I was too young to really remember the years we had Charles.

The Barkley years from 88-90 were fun. The problem is when you had the Bulls and the Lakers to go through, there really wasn't much the team could do. I was in 5th grade when the Sixers won the championship in '83. I know the Celtics, Lakers and Bulls have more championships. But for me, it was the greatest team of all time. Mo Cheeks, Andrew Toney (would of been on the top 50 if he didn't have the foot injuries), Dr.J, Moses Malone, and Bobby Jones (greatest 6th man of all time). But unfortunatly Harold Katz (Sixers Owner at the time) is a complete putz, and gives away Moses, Cheeks, and the first pick of the '85 draft away for a bag of flaming shit. It was a shame.

Yeah, I do remember that. I know the one year (1990 or 91?) we beat someone in the first round, Milwaukee I think, then the Bulls swept us or beat us in 5 games in the second round. I must have been 6 or 7 years old at the time.

I wish I was around to watch the 83 Sixers team. I always hear about them being one of the best in NBA history.

It was when Michael came back to the Bulls after retiring the first time. I knew about MJ and the NBA before that, but nothing specific. I remember I was at a summer camp and some other kid was talking about MJ (I had heard somewhere that he wasn't as good as he used to be when he first came back) I told the kid "Jordan sucks now." I feel like a complete idiot for having said that, MJ went on to become my favorite athlete of all time and he's never sucked.

Only thing I really remember is getting a basketball Valentines card (lul) of Kobe Bryant then next time I saw basketball on TV it was the Heat in 02-03. Then I got NBA 2k3 and got totally hooked with the NBA.

Damn...I was too young to remember "The Shot" though every Cleveland fan young and old despises it. It ranks up there with "The Drive" as Cleveland's worse memories.

However, this one got me interested in Basketball and my favorite player of All-Time.
