Aside from false starts, the penalty thing is way overblown.

His biggest issue, as stated before, is he's slowing down (what an understatement) and he was never a quick guy to begin with.

He'll open up holes for Mendenhall though.

Flozell has averaged 13 penalties a year over the past 3 seasons according to stats.com. That's 39 penalties with only 24 being false starts. The penalty thing is definitely not overblown.

Also 8 sacks allowed last year, btw.

Just in offensive lineman he had the 6th most penalties in 09, 2nd most in 08, and 6th most in 07. Anyway you put it he was right near the top of the league in penalties all those years. He's a penalty machine and the penalty thing is not overblown. Penalties are a big part of his game.

I agree.

I should probably restate that it's not about being penalty prone (which he is), it's the notion that he's a dirty player that bothers me.

Being deaf in his right ear was why he didnt get drafted in the first round.

The majority of all offensive lineman's penalties are false starts. The only other real penalty there is for an offensive lineman to commit other than a personal foul is holding. So making the point, other than false starts the penalty thing is overblown... Yeah well, every other offensive lineman in the NFL agrees with you.

Also there are lineman that commit less than 5 penalties a season so to say other than false starts an additional 5 penalties a season isn't a lot... Well in 9 starts Jordan Gross committed 1 penalty. Jake Long started all 32 games for the Dolphins the past 2 seasons and has committed only 9 over that span.

I always wondered why they didnt just move him to right tackle if he was deaf in his right.
Guess they wanted to be sure they heard the fans booing him after nullifying a 23 yard pass completion.
