I love how every year a college I've never heard of makes the Frozen Four. Ferris State last year and now St. Cloud State. Is parity in college hockey just off the charts or do these schools actually have big time hockey programs?

Schools have big time hockey programs. Obviously hockey will never be on the level that the rest of major NCAA sports is on, but some of these schools put a lot of time and money into hockey. Mostly you see your big ten schools with hockey programs, then you have North Dakota and Minnesota with big hockey programs and Colorado as well, as it is home to USA Hockey. Michigan houses the USA Development team which plays NCAA teams as well.

The difference with hockey is, the major programs do shift, and sometimes going to a small school is better. Take for example some of these North Dakota schools and Miami (Ohio) which has a good hockey program. Shit in football, good in hockey. NHL scouts do like these kids because by the time they get out of school they are 22-years-old and already men, not teenage boys.

So off that list, schools like Minnesota, Notre Dame, Miami, Boston College, North Dakota and Wisconsin are normally up there. I would go as far to say that Miami, Boston College and the Minnesota schools are your "power house" schools.

I really wish the NHL video game could put the college kids in the game, though same as football, can't use their names. Would be a cool edition I think, and offer people a different route to take instead of going just CHL.

Based on those records, it seems there is a good amount of parity as well. No team has less than 7 losses and Michigan is ranked with a losing record.
