Everyone has been making them, and I have one made as well. So i thought I join in on the fun and post it. Post your comments if you'd like. I'm probably going to update it Friday night or Saturday morning. The updated version will include some trades that I think might happen and I will then provide comments for my picks.
Mock Draft Version 1
Pick|Team|Position|Player|School|Comments
DET|QB|Matt Stafford|Georgia|The consensus first overall pick. The Lions hope he will be the guy of the future for this franchise.
STL|OT|Jason Smith|Baylor|St. Louis needs someone on the line that can help protect Bulger and block for Jackson.
KC|OLB|Aaron Curry|Wake Forest|He is, in my opinion, the best player in the draft. The Chiefs will be happy to get this guy to lead there defense in following years.
SEA|OLB/DE|Brian Orakpo|Texas|Many different picks are being seen for Seattle. However, their defense wasn't like years past in 2008 so they need to address it.
CLE|WR|Michael Crabtree|Texas Tech|Best offensive player in the draft. Braylon Edwards may be gone so he may come in as the replacement
CIN|OT|Eugene Monroe|Virginia|Eugene Monroe will create a chain reaction. With him, Palmer will be better protected. Thus, he won't get injured. Thus, he will be able to throw to Ocho Cinco. Thus, he will stop complaining...they hope.
OAK|OT|Andre Smith|Alabama|This pick was tough for me because I actually see them trading down here but if they don't Al Davis said they would go o-line.
JAX|WR|Jeremy Maclin|Missouri|Jacksonville hasn't had a decent receiver since Jimmy Smith. Maclin can do it all and will compliment MJD.
GB|DT|B.J. Raji|Boston College|This team would have won the division if their defense would have held up. Raji will give them a younger guy to add to the lineup.
SF|QB|Mark Sanchez|USC|Most others have him going higher, but I honestly don't see it. San Francisco will be glad to get a guy to replace the huge bust in Alex Smith.
BUF|DE|Everette Brown|Florida State|The Bills spend this pick debating between Brown, Jackson, and Maybin. Brown eventually gets picked because he is the best fit.
DEN|DE|Tyson Jackson|LSU|Just like in every other mock draft, Tyson Jackson goes 12th to Denver. There were others considered but Jackson should get the job done.
WAS|OT|Michael Oher|Ole Miss|Clinton Portis proved last year that he is still a top tier running back. If they can get another solid guy to block, their running game could become dominant.
NO|FS|Malcolm Jenkins|Ohio State|Among other things, the Saints need some help in the secondary. Jenkins will make the move from corner to free safety and should hep New Orleans out.
HOU|OLB/DE|Aaron Maybin|Penn State|A potential top ten pick, but was thought to go to Buffalo. Houston adds to an already great defense with this pick.
SD|OLB|Brian Cushing|USC|Who knows what Shawne Merriman's status is right now? Even if he does come back strong, it is always good to have some depth in the lineabcking core.
NYJ|WR|Percy Harvin|Florida|His stock has been dropping a little bit, so this may very well change over the week. However, the Jets desperately need another big play maker.
DEN|HB|Chris Wells|Ohio State|Not a popular pick by many, but with Cutler gone, they may need to look to the running game to jump start their offense and pick Beanie Wells.
TB|QB|Josh Freeman|Kansas State|Tampa Bay always seems to have a handful of quarterback on their depth charts. However, when the best guy is Byron Leftwich, it may be time to draft the quarterback of the future.
DET|OT|Eben Britton|Arizona|Detroit does a great job of filling their biggest needs with the 1st and 20th picks overall by drafting Stafford and now Britton.
PHI|WR|Darrius Heyward-Bey|Maryland|Some say that it is a bit of a risky pick here and I agree. But if Philly picks here they need to get another guy for Mcnabb to throw to.
MIN|CB|Vontae Davis|Illinois|The secondary is getting old up in Minnesota. Vontae Davis is the best pure cornerback in the draft and a great pick at this spot.
NE|ILB|Rey Maualuga|USC|Outside linebackers are much better in this draft, but Maualuga was a complete beast. He's the USC linebacker that I actually expect to have the best career.
ATL|TE|Brandon Pettigrew|Oklahoma State|They haven't had a good tight end since Alge Crumpler last year. Pettigrew is clearly the best tight end in the class.
MIA|WR|Hakeem Nicks|UNC|My homerism plays into my mock draft here a little bit. Kenny Britt probably has the better shot at going here, but I hope he will go to my Giants.
BAL|OT|William Beatty|UConn|Possibly not the best fit for the system, but Baltimore needs another tackle since Ogden retired. Hopefully, he can convert to a right tackle.
IND|DT|Peria Jerry|Ole Miss|Indy has one of the best defensive lines in the league. However, it is mostly because they are stacked at defensive end. With Jerry, their pass rush and run defense could be even better.
BUF|OLB|Clay Matthews|USC|To fortify their defense, the Bills pick Matthews, making him the third USC linebacker taken in the first round. He should be a future starter for them.
NYG|WR|Kenny Britt|Rutgers|Like I said, this is my homer pick that probably won't happen because his stock is quickly rising. The Giants would love him at this pick, though.
TEN|CB|Alfonso Smith|Wake Forest|Unless one of the top 6 receivers falls to their pick, the Titans are most likely going defense. Right now it seems like Smith is the guy.
ARI|HB|Knowshon Moreno|Georgia|Arizona is a huge steal at this point. There are a few other teams that are looking to pick him up, but right now he could slip to #31.
PIT|C|Alex Mack|California|It was clear last season that the Super Bowl winners had one flaw. Big Ben was on the ground to much. Mack should help strengthen the offensive line.
