[PS3] Game Freezing Issues After 4.40 Update

So after I downloaded the latest 4.40 update, some of my games freeze during play (NBA 2k11, GTA IV, Episodes from LC) while some don't. I have the older, fat PS3. Others have had this problem too. So FUCKING ticked off at Sony. They better fix this ASAP.

I know the BF3 crew has all had their share of freezing issues while playing that game lately, and I had an instance today where my console froze for about five seconds before it recovered when I got a trophy. I haven't personally had the game freeze playing another game since the firmware update though.

I agree. BF3 has made my Xbox and ps3 freeze up many many times since it released.

Besides the freezes witgh Bf3, which are obviously an issue with that game, I had one exiting to the main menu in GoW:A the other night.

Just downloaded update 4.41 and I'm still having the same game-freezing issues I've had since the 4.40 update. Thank you Sony for making my gaming experience a happy one and fucking up my PS3.

Honestly, you probably need a new PS3. I started noticing more freezing and also some graphic artifacting with some game and just decided to bite the bullet and buy a new Slim. No issues since.

No way man - my shit was working fine before 4.40. I'm not giving Sony any more of my money to solve a problem they caused. Then I have to shell out more loot so I can transfer my UT3 maps and other game files to a new machine? I may never buy another Sony product, that's how fucking pissed off I am.

I know after one of the updates I couldn't play Borderlands without is constantly freezing. Gearbox even admitted it was an issue on their end but they never released a fix. I loved that game so much that I just said fuck it and bought a new PS3. It was on sale anyway.

And you complain about the 360??? I have the original 60-GB PS3 ... why should I just give up the ghost on it if the PS3 is so superior to the 360?

Twigg, I still have my ColecVision & Atari 7800 in fine working condition. That should tell you how well I keep my shit together. So I know it can't be a hardware issue, despite what those Sony tech-fucktards say. And a couple of my games aren't freezing (UT3 & Tekken Tag). But the rest are, and it's killing me that I can't play MK or the GTAs. All my woes happened after 4.40.

I would back up the saves and format the hard drive.

Trust me, that doesn't mean anything. I'm also meticulous with they way I care for my consoles, games, accessories, etc (cpntrary to what Virix will tell you ) but I had issues too. Consoles are way more technical now and some games, like Borderlands, are super taxing on the system. That's why some game still work fine and others keep locking up.

I'm not saying it's acceptable or excusable. The issues that people like you are having are probably minute in the grand scheme of things. Sony has to look at the fact that the update solved a mot more issues than it hurt so cost wise it wouldn't be effective for them to find a solution to the problem you;re having. Your console is almsot seven years old now. It's having trouble keeping up.

Try what JMS said first. If that doesn't work buying a new PS3 is probably your only option.

If you go to the official Playstation sites, you'll see pages and pages of complaints about 4.40 & 4.41, even from owners of slim PS3s. Some in the UK have been affected too. All Sony's talk about "fixing stability issues" is bullshit. All it's done is piss off loyal customers.

I'm not working fulltime, so even if wanted to buy a new PS3 and a hardrive transfer kit, I couldn't.
