Greg Jennings uncertain of long-term future with Packers

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Wide receiver Greg Jennings enters the 2012 season uncertain about his long-term future in Green Bay.

"But everyone knows what the reality of it is when guys are coming up on a deal," Jennings said. "Will you be here? If I don't get a contract, no. Do I want to be here? Absolutely. Everyone upstairs knows that. The guys around me know that. But at the end of the day, the focus has to be on football. I have to go out there and prepare as I've always prepared, put myself in the best situation to make plays for my team and this organization."

But with the Packers preparing to face the San Francisco 49ers in Sunday's season opener at Lambeau Field, Jennings insisted his contract situation won't become a distraction.

"I'm not worried about whether I'm going to end up here or whether I'm getting a contract done," Jennings said. "That will take care of itself. Right now, my (mind) is on the 49ers, and it will be on the next opponent and the next opponent after that. If I'm here, I would love to be here. If I'm not, it is what it is.

"At the end of the day I'm going to play football, I'm going to play 100 percent every single snap. This is my locker, I want this to be my locker until I hang my cleats up and decide I'll give this locker up to someone else."

Jennings is one of several high-profile players the Packers' front office will have to address in the foreseeable future. Outside linebacker Clay Matthews and defensive lineman B.J. Raji come up after the 2013 season, and Aaron Rodgers is vastly outperforming a deal that runs through the end of the 2014 season.

Jennings said he wasn't sure if the Packers will be able to keep all four players.

"I'm sure they would love to," Jennings said. "I'm sure all four guys would love to stay. But who knows? Only time will tell."

I love the guy, but I dont see us keeping him, especially if Cobb emerges has a true threat.

We are really deep at WR and have too many contracts coming up to give Jennings the money he deserves.

I really don't know where this is coming from, but I can't possibly imagine Jennings going away. Jordy Nelson has games where you are just as stunned by what he pulls off as the defense is, but he's not a number 1 receiver and I don't think anyone else on that team is nearly as good without Jennings. James Jones still inexplicably drops really easy passes all the time, so does Jermichael Finley, and so does Nelson. Cobb is totally unproven as well.

It baffles my mind that the drops thing doesn't get mentioned more with as much press as Green Bay gets these days, but people forget that their receivers coach, Edgar Bennett was Brett Favre's running back in the superbowl win. He was the receivers coach last year too. With all the fucking dropped passes, he's also apparently really bad at coaching receivers on proper technique. I was 16 and i've done alot of drugs since then so I don't remember if he was any good at catching the ball or not but he's not getting it done teaching the skill to others.

Jennings is the only really money player for Rodgers, with Driver on his last legs (you know someones about done when they do Dancing with the Stars) and he's still young. This is the NFL you can hand out a "50 million" dollar contract and just renegotiate in 3 years or move signing bonuses around or whatever, the salary cap can be massaged to the point that it won't be a money issue. Jennings won't be going anywhere until his play earns it, or if his knee rips off or something.

Meh the guy has show over the past few years he can catch a serious case of the drops. And honestly I think Jordy Nelson has proven that he is the true number 1 wide receiver for the team.

Greg Jennings dropped 4 catchable passes in the 2011 season. Granted Nelson only dropped 2 but both of them are solidly in the top 20 receivers with the best hands in the league.
