Haslam Steps Down As CEO Of Flying J

yeah, pathetic that this is the big news for the browns today. The thinking being that this shows he will have a very active role in the browns moving forward. I like the idea of having an owner who wants to win, but i dont want a Jones or Schneider type who gets in the way of winning. I hope this guy brings the Steelers model for winning to the Browns...and maybe entice Cowher to come out of retirement.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Presumptive Browns majority owner Jimmy Haslam, who plans to establish a presence in Cleveland, has stepped down as the CEO of his family-owned Pilot Flying J to become the company's chairman.The company announced Tuesday that PepsiCo president John Compton will become the new CEO.
The announcement comes less than two months after news broke that Haslam intended to purchase the Browns for a reported $1 billion.
Haslam had served as Pilot CEO since 1994, turning a business founded by his father into one of the nation's largest privately held companies. He is expected to be approved by the NFL as the Browns new majority owner on Oct. 16.
Since the deal was finalized, Haslam has been a frequent visitor to the Browns training facility and he attended the regular-season opener on Sunday. He and his wife, Dee, are close to purchasing a home in the area even as he's expected to split time between here and Knoxville, Tenn., where Pilot Flying J is based.

thats a tough one to answer. prior to shanahans, snyder was more of a problem than a solution. Lerner has been a non existant owner, but still gave the people he hired the freedom to win at all costs. He just picked people who couldnt do the job.

See, Snyder disappeared when he brought Gibbs on board. When Gibbs left, he let Vinny Cerrato take over and he failed miserably to oversee the debacle of Jim Zorn, while still being a public figure. I think that's what most people don't realize, with the start of Gibbs, Snyder has taken a far less active approach to things.

EDIT: The one exception was when things went south with Zorn and Cerrato, Snyder stepped in, firing Cerrato, which shocked everyone, and then bringing in Bruce Allen. He originally wanted to hire Shanahan after the Rams game that year, but Shanahan didn't want to take the job until after the season.
