So we signed Luke McCown to a extension, signed Byron Leftwich 2 weeks ago, drafted Josh Johnson last year and still have Brian Griese under contract. We also released 5 veterans from the roster, managed only 29 total sacks last year and have an immediate need for a pass-rusher and need to strengthen the secondary.

When it comes time to make our pick, we decide to add Josh Freeman to bring our quarterback total to 5 and have yet to address our issues with a pass-rusher or beef up the secondary.

Great fuckin' direction to go in 'Heem! You should've just let Bates take his guy at #19 instead of trading up for a guy who will be a bust.

And Leftwich is not a starting calibre QB, his long release has seen to that.

It doesn't matter. We were not going to be very good this year anyway and the last thing this organization needed to do was take a mediocre quarterback in the first round with a less-than-stellar group of quarterbacks in this draft. The best thing to do would have been to wait till next year and draft a quarterback then. Right now, you have 2 unknown commodities in Johnson and McCown and have added a very expensive 3rd unknown commodity.

To say Jim Bates is pissed is an understatement. Plus, from what I heard, the pick was not well-received by those who were in attendance at the draft party at RJS. Apparently, it got "very ugly" when the pick was announced.

This is 'Heem getting antsy and just taking a quarterback b/c he felt he needed to. I am telling all of you know, this is a bad pick.

That was Raheem's reasoning for the pick. He is comparing Josh Freeman to Peyton Manning.

Griese will be the one that is released. Leftwich can be released with no penalty. However, the new leadership would be getting started on the wrong foot considering they promised Leftwich that he would have the opportunity to start and compete. If they release him, that will create serious questions about the credibility that 'Heem and Dominik have.

'Heem was the only one high on Freeman. Bates was told that he would get help in the first round and would have a lot of say regarding the pick @19. Then 'Heem gets antsy and trades up and Bates is told they are going offense. He was pissed. Much like Rich McKay telling Gruden that the team was taking Chris Simms eventhough they had no scouting report on him.

It did not go over well. 'Heem can be high on him all he wants, but, he just sealed his fate and set this franchise back several years. Freeman is all hype. This is a classic case of falling in love with potential and size. That's it. The book on this kid is so polarizing that the fact that 'Heem is gambling the franchises future scares me.


I don't want to say "I told you so" a few years from now. But, I'm quite sure I will be.

It will take at least 2 dudes to bring his big ass down, he has a rocket on his arm and on top of it all he is smart. Very very smart, and if coached right he is capable of being Ben Roflburger 2.0. (in regards to being from a small(er) school and coming into the NFL and doing well.)

I've seen at least 5, and I don't see what there is to like about Josh Freeman. He has amazing physical talent, but he really does not make sound decisions. He takes sacks in the red zone, forces it into coverage, or just sails the ball when he's being rushed.

He is a poor man's JaMarcus Russell at best right now. Probably more like a homeless man's JaMarcus Russell actually.

The only thing McNabb and Freeman have in common is their skin colour.
If you're gonna compare Freeman to anyone, I'd say Leftwich is a closer match.

You could do worse than being a poor man's #1 overall pick.

He's a 1st round pick based on physical traits alone. But, he's also smart. He played in a pro system. He started as a true frosh in a BCS conference. He's durable. He's confident.

I also think it's really important to consider his supporting cast at K-State. It was pure garbage. His line sucked. His best receiver was a 5'6" 140 lb JUCO transfer, and his RB was a converted WR who should've been playing defense. Ron Prince FTL. I think that will help Freeman in the NFL, though. He was the guy at K-State. He came in as a big recruit and started as a freshman, so he's used to having pressure on him. He dealt with it well. I think QB's who weren't surrounded by a lot of talent in college have a good chance to be pretty good in the league once they have capable players around them. Guys like Matt Ryan, Flacco, Cutler, Rivers, and Big Ben come to mind as examples.

I think he has a chance to be really successful if he waits a couple of years behind Leftwich or whoever starts in Tampa, learns the offense, and speeds up his thought processes and decision making.

Watching NFLN was hilarious today when the Buccs picked the guy because it was clear that Gruden was like "I would NOT have picked that guy". Then, I LOL'd when he said "I wouldn't look at QBs until the 6th round"...

It was funny.

Seems like this pick was made because of the relationship between Freeman and Morris more than anything, similar to the Dolphins taking Ted Ginn a few years ago.
