Awful pick. The 2009 quarterback class was less than stellar and filled with underclassmen. This pick seemed to be a pick of desperation. By default, Freeman is now a franchise quarterback - not because of his skill, but, because of his draft position.

1. I will have to respectfully disagree with you about the Freeman pick. While you say that there was no value in our needs, it still does not justify taking such a "boom or bust" player at the quarterback position. Quarterback is the hardest position to play in the game of football and therefore requires much more development time. Thus, it requires that the organization give Freeman even more time than a typical rookie in the hopes that he will develop. All the while, we could be passing up better quarterback prospects because we still don't know what we have with Freeman. I tend to think of Freeman in the same way that you think about Kyle Moore. HYPE. We are not going to make much noise this year. I would have been more comfortable going with McCown or Leftwich for a season and taking a quarterback next in next year's class.

I'm not even saying this team would win with Gruden, but, a lot of these guys were here with Gruden and he got them to 9-7 in back-to-back seasons and had them competitive. Morris can't even get these guys to compete. Think about this...Morris can't even get a decent defensive unit together to play fundamental football like keeping their gap assignments, proper tackle technique, etc. And that is on the defense. He does not have an offensive background and he said he would take Josh Freeman 1st overall in the draft if he had the opportunity.

Just some perspective for you all to realize what a dark road this team is going down.

It's not about "I told you so." I did nothing but warn people about Raheem and after the first game, everyone was ready to write me off and say I was nothing but a Gruden lover. Look at the body of work since the Dallas game.

All I said was Freeman was not overly impressive. He wasn't awful either. But, we have seen this song and dance before with young quarterbacks and they often have some success early due to a lack of tape for the other teams to watch. As soon as teams get some film on a kid, the production tends to drop. Fact is, he wasn't that impressive. Gradkowski was waaaay more impressive in his debut and he ended up faltering. I stand by what I said and if Freeman proves me wrong, I will admit it, as I have done before - I'm not ashamed to say I'm wrong - I'm just not going to let a average performance WOW me based off the fact that he is a rookie.

Look at Mark Sanchez and how he started the season to the body of work he has put together since. He experienced some early success and then hit a wall as soon as NFL teams had some tape on him. All I'm saying is that Freeman played better than I had expected, which I already said in an earlier post in the gameday thread, but, I wouldn't be shocked to see him regress a little. Tony Banks threw 3 touchdowns in his NFL debut too...some of you guys are just the opposite. You have a hard-on to try and prove people wrong that you start making arguments after one game.

Same Bucs fans that were calling me a hater after week 1 when I said don't be fooled by the score and the stats against Dallas were nowhere to be found the following 6 weeks. I'll wait to see what he does over a significant stretch of games before I start annointing him a savior.

I will go ahead and state my case...again...as to why Freeman is not a franchise quarterback:

- His career completion percentage in college is below 60%

- 34 career INTs in 35 career games against college defenses. I can only imagine what those numbers will be against more complex/better/faster defenses at the NFL level

- Freeman's 2008 numbers were inflated due to the piss-poor defenses he faced in the Big XII and OOC

- Accuracy is a concern

- His completion percentage was up and down from 51% to 63% to 58%

- 8 of Freeman's 20 TDs last season came against North Texas, Montana State and Louisiana-Lafayette. Against vaunted Big XII defenses: 12 TDs and 8 INTs

None of those above facts yell "first round pick" to me. My problem is with the pick. I have a very strong opinion regarding the pick and I do not think this kid is a franchise quarterback. However, due to his draft posotion, we now have to make him a franchise quarterback by default. He just doesn't have the skills and it will be the nail in the coffin for Sunshine and Mark Dominik. This pick screams desperation. It reeks of trying to keep up with the elite franchises of the league. They are shoving this kid down our throat and all he can really offer is a big arm and big size. His does not impress me with his intelligence and his arrogance, which should not be confused with confidence, is nauseating. Claiming he is better than Sanchez and Stafford when he wasn't even better than them in college!?!?! WTF???

I wouldn't hold my breath. This is from boys upstairs who want their "prized" piece of shit quarterback on the field. Funny thing is, the Glazers - whom I once had a ton of respect for - think that this is what the fans want. They think that just because this kid was drafted in the 1st round - that he's a franchise guy and they think it is going to make the fans come together and blindly throw down money for season tickets. Well, the Glazers have done all they can to get people to buy tickets this season. They have lowered prices, waived the deposit fees, offered mini-plans, offered payment plans, etc. and it has not had an effect. This kid is not the savior and he'll set us back for years down the road. Forcing him on the field early will only speed up the bust label that he'll hold down the road.
