If LT is released, where does he go?

There is a lot of talk about LT being released from San Diego so I'm wondering who would shell out the money for him.

I'm thinking Arizona which would drastically change their draft plans for this year at least.

I'm a Niners fan, but Tomlinson has been one of my favorite players since he first came into the league. I'd definitely like to see him stay in San Diego as well. But I understand it from the business side, where it might be smarter for the team to move on rather than risk keeping a player who may be past his prime.

That happens with a lot of RB though. 30 is pretty much the age where RB's start to decline. Its just a very hard position to stay healthy for your entire career. I also wouldnt be surprised if LT were to retire in a year or two. He has expressed how he doesnt want to stay in the NFL forever and would open to retiring at an early age.

well, conventional wisdom is runningbacks usually fall off after 10 years.

but every knows that.

the difference is, he put up A+ numbers the two years before, and after one rough season where he fought an injury, people are already shitting on him without actually letting him come back and show what he can do.

I think people aren't being fair to Tomlinson because they take the age into consideration, and because he didn't have a great year last year. I heard some fuck up on Around the Horn today try to say that Darren Sproles was the future of the San Diego Chargers, and the sad thing is people believe this.

Take this into account, Darren Sproles will never be anything more then a situational runningback, he is just a different type of Devin Hester or Reggie Bush. you put him in positions where he can make plays and he'll reward you, but if you ask him to take 30 carries a game like Tomlinson and his little ass will be hanging from the stands after the defense gets through with him, ask Pittsburgh, they did it.

He went from top back in the league to barely being able to stay in the league. not only did Alexander make his $ off of being a power back that you couldn't tackle with one guy, but he is also 2 years older then Tomlinson.

granted, 2 years isn't much, but it means retirement probably comes 2 years sooner.

Tomlinson also isn't exactly a brute runner like Alexander is, Tomlinson has been known for years for being very elusive and having great vision, you don't see Tomlinson lowering his shoulder a lot, different story with Alexander though.

Bruisers last half as long as elusive runners, thats why guys like Earl Campbell didn't last past 7 years, the toll on their body is so great.

Anyway, I think Tomlinson his usual year, maybe he wont rush for 1,800 yards, but I don't doubt he gets to at least 1,300.

the young guys are taking that over now, with Michael Turner, Adrian Peterson, and Chris Johnson all getting better.

Keep in mind though LT has been coming off two straight injuries. I think he could definitely lose a step from them. It is very hard to compare a guy like Earl Campbell to LT as the games have changed a lot from when Campbell Played to now. Shaun Alexander started his decline when he was about 28. So what you were saying about LT not being a power back like Alexander I think it could be quite possible for LT to start his decline this year when he is age 30.

Ia m not going to pull out the stats but, LT is def not washed up, he has at least one good season left.
It's sad that the Chargers could be releasing potentially the best RB of all time.
Saying this, keeping LT and drafting a RB is what I think the Chargers should do

Runningbacks are usually done for by age 28. I don't think LT is done for, I just don't think he will live up to what he did in that 2-3 year stretch where he looked like the best runningback in the history of the NFL. I think he can still be successful, just not what people expect him to be.

I say he ends up staying in San Diego.
