The Colts resting their players did hurt them in the past. Note that this year Indy completely switched up their game preparation leading up the Ravens game under a new coaching regime. Even though Indy still did some soft things (not pursuing 16-0) they lost a few soft things too (Ron Meeks and Dungy)

It was still dumb for Indy to yank starters, especially the way they handled it leading up to the Jets game and during the Bills game. They should've just knocked the Jets off in week 16, kill a team when you have a chance to.

its not a trend its not a real argument its some shit for michael strahan and boomer esiason and jimmy johnson to talk about on a pregame show. sometimes a team comes in super hot and meets a team that isn't and they steamroll them. and sometimes the quality teams stand tall, as they did today (in places other than san diego). I slept through most of the playoff games this weekend because they were such a quality exhibition of a quality team sitting an overrated one the fuck down.

as ive said a billion times its football, not baseball, statistics and trends and arguments are fun stuff to talk about, but the arent reality, on any given sunday, anything can happen, thats not cliche, thats the NFL, thats why it makes as much money as it does.

They won the Super Bowl that year because they turned it on in the playoffs - one game at a time. They erased the memory of their shitty performances during the regular season and understood that it's a 1 game season. If you want to chalk it up to "backing their way into the playoffs and playing hard till the end of the year" then obviously you can. Agree to disagree.

Caldwell made them go 1s v 1s most of the week and asked them to practice hard instead of going the Dungy approach and thinking Bye weeks are for rest and not to work on anything . yeah under Dungy Manning and Clark would be off on vacation fishing and shit during bye weeks. I don't know how much but that combined mentality of Dungy and Polian did hurt Indy to some extent. I'm just glad we have Caldwell now who helps balance things out.

It's an any given sunday type thing. In any case, I'm excited for next weekend's matchups. What happens if the Saints blowout/shut-out the Vikings (highly unlikely) or the Jets beat the Colts (also highly unlikely).

The Jets seem to be making quite a thing of backing into the playoffs, as Mark Sanchez already has more playoff wins than Tony Romo and as many as Drew Brees (he's not responsible, but I thought that would be funny to mention).

Then what, though? Do we say the Saints have a great defense? Is the Vikings defense no longer stellar? Is Manning still a choke-artist? Because if he beats the Jets, we all know there will be endless talk about how he is the undisputed greatest ever, all he has to do is beat Favre/Brees...

Any given sunday, anything can happen. Rest, rust, whatever...

I think it really depends on coaching. If you looked at Dallas right out of the gate today, there was NO energy in that team. Minnesota was the opposite, but I think it really came from feeding off the energy of the crowd. Home field advantage played a big part in the games this weekend, save for the Jets game. Maybe it's the domes?

But anyways Dallas and Arizona just looked lethargic. Maybe the coaches didn't get them mentally ready to play in those hostile environments?
