Jack Rodwell to Man City

Holy shit! With a transfer this big, can we rule out Baines leaving the club now? Fellaini is probably staying then too. Who or what will Moyes go after with all this money in the bank?
 
LOL. He hasn't played much in the past year due to injury too so Everton won't be missing him too much. That's why I love this move. Big money to the club for a player they won't/haven't missed much.

Last season, he was able to use the money from the Arteta transfer to get Jelavic. The Arteta transfer was on the last day of the window or there about so Everton didn't have the time to make a move right away and they got Jelavic in January. This year, he's still got a few weeks to make a move so it'll be interesting to see what comes of this.

If Moyes is still rolling with one forward this season, Jelavic is that man and they don't have a need to improve right now, with Strac filling in when Jelavic gets time off. Howard is still solid in goal and the defense is still very capable, although aging (Distin and Neville are both on the wrong side of 30, Baines is approaching 30). I think they are weakest in the midfield right now and they could use some playmaking type midfielder with an attacking sense of mind. Either a winger or a man up the middle would be suitable. No, I don't think Pienaar is that man. With 15 to 20 mil, they can afford something better. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to add some youth to the defense though.

Jack Rodwell has completed his transfer to Manchester City.

The midfielder has joined the Premier League champions for an undisclosed fee after Everton accepted a bid on Sunday.

He underwent a medical and agreed personal terms with City, penning a five-year contract.

Rodwell, now 21, has been at Everton since the age of seven, making his senior debut in 2007, aged 16.

He thanked all those people who have played a part in his career and revealed that Everton did not want to sell him.

He said: "I have a special relationship with the Chairman, Mr Kenwright, who did not want me to leave but this was an opportunity I could not refuse.

"I would like to place on record my thanks to everyone at Everton Football Club. The manager has been brilliant for me and helped make me the player that I am today.

"I would like to place on record my thanks to him and all the coaching staff and players who have worked with me since I joined the academy as a seven-year-old. Finally I would like to thank all the fans who have been amazing during my years at Everton. I have enjoyed every minute of my time there and I wish everyone at the club the best of luck for the new season and beyond."

A new chapter in the Birkdale-born player's career now opens with the Premier League champions.

Rodwell continued: "Turning to Manchester City, it is an honour to be signing for the champions.

"I relish the opportunity of playing with some of the best players in the world and continuing my development.

"I look forward to working with Mr Mancini and his coaching staff and ultimately playing in front of the City fans at the Etihad Stadium. It will be an amazing experience to make my debut in front of them. The hard work starts today as I start to help contribute to the club winning more silverware."

Good for us on selling him, but I feel like any young guys who move to Man City are destined to die in their reserves.
 
I must say. I dont get it.

Cant stay healthy, and when he could. He wasnt breaking into Evertons lineup. So now, he is going to go to City, where they have Barry, Milner, De Jong, and oh yea Yaya. Its going to be a game of which of these doesnt fit. Also, a reason they bought him was for CB cover cuz Savic sucks. I dont get it. Their squad is far better than anyone elses. They have a little depth in the middle already. So Mancini cries publicly last week about no signings and then Brian gets him this.

EFC fans Ive seen are beyond happy.
 
I think the only way Everton fans would hate this move is if Rodwell blows up and becomes a huge superstar (like Rooney). What are the chances? The club is better off with the money at this point in time.
 
Not great. You need playing time to get there. Where he is going. PT is going to be hard to come by.

instead of paying 15 million pounds, i would rather take a chance on some young talent already at the club. but i will assume the club knows what it is doing with this kind of thing far better than i do. hope it works out
