Jackie Robinson Biopic '42'



Really looking forward to this one.


Reading a biography on Robinson and up to the part where he's brought in by Rickey to Dodgers camp for the first time. The Montreal Royals (the AAA affiliate) manager was a guy named Clay Hopper (full southerner, a plantation owner, didn't want Robinson there but fell in line when the move was made).

:smh: at this passage...

Robinson could hardly guess the depth of his manager's feelings. Some days later, after Rickey praised a particular play by Jackie as superhuman, Hopper was shocked. "Mr. Rickey," he asked, his lips quivering with emotion, "do you really think a nigger's a human being?" Rickey ignored him.
