Jaguars 2011 Projected Starting Lineup : The whole damn thing.

QB - David Garrard - D+ - Is the exact type of QB every team should hate. Show you flashes of good ability when he ass is on the line, but is generally average and will always make your team average (the worst position to be in the NFL...average). They have a first round QB in the mix however...its a start.

RB - Maurice Jones-Drew - A - Doesn't get much better than him in the league.

FB - Greg Jones - C+ - He's always kind of there, but never really stands out.

WR - Mike Thomas - C- - A great idea...a slot wide receiver as your starter.

WR - Jason Hill - F - Maybe the worst starting wide receiver in the league.

TE - Marcedes Lewis - B+ - One of the best in the league, but he's going to get a new contract...future status to be determined.

LT - Eugene Monroe - B- - Started to turn the corner last year.

LG - Jason Spitz / Will Rackley - C- - A rookie with lots of upside and a guy who couldn't start for the Packers. Nice.

C - Brad Meester / Jason Spitz - C- - Old and a non-starter.

RG - Uche Nwaneri / Jason Spitz - C - Good run blocker, should be upgraded and non-starter.

RT - Eben Britton - C - Would be a better guard than tackle.

DE - Aaron Kampmann - C - Good, but always injured.

DE - Austin Lane - F - A bum with a nice haircut.

DT - Terrance Knighton - B - Should have been a Pro Bowler last year.

DT - Tyson Alualu - C - Was a solid rookie last year, but would be a better end in the 34 scheme.

LB - Daryl Smith - B- - Always kind of good, but never ever anything better than good. He's like passing college with a 3.00 GPA.

LB - Paul Pozluzny - B- - Always kind of good, but never ever anything better than good. He's like passing college with a 3.00 GPA after you failed a full semester for missing it.

LB - Clint Sessions - C - Remember, we spoke about the Jaguars being mean and feared. No one fears Sessions, but he's now our token angry negro. Every team needs a token angry negro.

CB - Rashean Mathis - C+ - Old. Should be moved to safety.

CB - Derek Cox - C- - Average. Powdered Toast Man Award winner in the past.

NB - Drew Coleman - D- - Who?

S - Courtney Green - F+ - Slightly better than bum.

S - Dawan Landry - C - Solid player, but surely playing next to Courtney Greene will not be the same as playing next to Edward the GOAT.

I am amazed at how mediocre the Jags have become. They really don't have much in the way of offensive or defensive lines. Jones-Drew is great, and I really like Marcedes Lewis, but the offense lacks imagination. But I guess its hard to be imaginative when your QBs are Garrard, Trent Edwards, one of the McCowns, and Todd Bouman. It seemed like a few years ago the Jags defense not only was good, but other teams were scared to play them. They are absolutely terrible now, with no player of distinction. What happened?

That feared defense was essentially pre-made by Tom Coughlin. They had a run of drafts that were just awful. Spent all of their early picks on offensive skill position players instead of on the lines and since Gene Smith took over they overcompensated and made ridiculous draft picks on the O and D Line.

Stroud and Henderson got old and they got rid of them...they then were pretty good elsewhere.

The problem was, they were awful drafting...so, when the old guys got old, they had no one in there to really play but a bunch of undrafted bums and cheap-o free agent bums. Swung and missed on most of their early picks with limited upside on the guys they did hit on (sans Drew and Lewis - and it took Lewis until last season to "get it" FWIW).

So, when guys like Paul Spicer (not a stud, but was a good player on the strong side at end on those feared D) had their shelf life run out, they were running out busts like Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves (who were selected to overcompensate for years of misses and lack of resources going to the lines).

Just a mess in regards to talent evaluation and "coaching'em up"

One of the dumbest players I've ever seen play the safety position. NEVER EVER EVER in position to make a play.

/Deon Grant, is who you are thinking of. Also Donovin Darius. A good safety combo. Grant the centerfield FS. Darius the in-the-box extra linebacker SS. Rashean Mathis at corner.

3-4 "5-tech" end...Adonis of a man...have talked to him many times and as humble a kid as you'll meet. Naturally (country) strong that might not always equate to the bench and gym numbers (although they are strong but he's got monkey-length arms /no racism). For a man his size, rare athlete. Moves well laterally and can chase and drag.

Technique is waaaaay behind the curve (like Calais Campbell when he came out, yet, he's overcome it and learned) because he had horrible coaching for the most part). Played out of position at UM. Doesn't make much in the area of pass rush moves or a feel for getting to the QB, but overall a solid against the run end.

In sum, great kid, works hard, natural football player, but needs to be coached up. If you can coach him up and hone all of those skills, you got a Pro Bowler. If not, he'll still be a functional piece to your team just on natural talent. More upside than Calais Campbell, but should be as good as him at worse with just a little TLC from his position coach. So, you got yourself a good player.

Drew Coleman - 44 tackles, 5 FF, 4 sacks, 1 INT. That's who.
I think it's a lot better chance that Mincey starts over Lane.

Finally, I doubt that Greene starts this year. Dawan is a Strong Safety and Gene said that the starting free safety is already on the roster, don't be shocked to see rookie Chris Prosinski take the job.
