What are your thoughts? HOF voting is going on right now, and Bags is in his first year on the ballot.

He was a pretty great all-around player for at least a decade, even swiped 30 bases twice. Finished with 450 HRs which hurts his candidacy, but is a lifetime .297 hitter with a career OPS of .948.

Only 1 MVP season (1994), but the same can be said for Chipper Jones and he's a surefire Cooperstown guy. Also didn't help that Berroid was monopolizing the award during his best years. In 2000, Bags posted a .310/.424/.615 line, and added 47 bombs and 132 RBI. That should be good enough to win the award most years. (Jeff Kent actually won this one, not Barry, but Bonds would go on to claim the next four.)

I would probably vote for him. Would you?
 
They let too many fuckers in the hall of fame! Im voting no....but I am sure he will get in.

Dude was so roided up too.....ever see him now. He is like 170-180lbs
 
Still, it wouldn't shock me to learn that Bags was juicing. (Could say this about any player from this era though, sadly.)

anyway...i dont want to derail this on steroid talk. Looking back at his career stats he was a great player for 10 seasons in a row. 1996 was an awesome year as well as his MVP year in 1994. I guess as a first baseman he should be in. I think playing in Houston hurt his popularity and stardom.

Bags shoulder problems were really well known at the end of his career.
 
Sorry but a 1st baseman better have 500 home runs for me to put him in the Hall these days. It's a premium power spot that commands premium power numbers.

Not that 450 is anything to scoff at. If he played any other position I'd say let him in.

good point....i guess the injuries cut him short of hitting 500...but he did play for 15 years. Average of 30 hrs a years is pretty good....but is it Hall of Fame good?

Jeff Bagwell – Career line of .297/.408/.540/.948 is a thing of beauty by itself, but the 1529 rbi and 449 hrs in just 15 seasons puts him over the top. Even more impressive is that he compiled a career 79.9 WAR, and he barely played in his last season (39 games), so he really did most of his damage in 14 seasons. The ROY award, MVP award, 4 All-Star selections, 1 Gold Glove, and 3 Silver Sluggers are really nice, but the man played 1B at basically an All-Star level for an entire career. If that’s not sustained excellence, then I’m not sure I know what is.

Bagwell was an elite player during his era. To me, he should be a lock, an absolute no brainer.

I have no passion when it comes to these hall of fame arguments anymore. When a guy like Barry Larkin not only doesn't get in, but doesn't even come close, you lose faith in it all.

Who gives a shit. Put everybody in, its just a stupid museum anyway, give us some more plaques to look at.

Stats for these guys....it seems like the 500 HRS would make him a lock. If you had under 500 HRS you need a +.300 BA. He is very close.
