The Los Angeles Kings have acquired centre Jeff Carter from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for defenceman Jack Johnson and a first round draft pick.
The deal is pending Carter passing a physical on Friday.
Carter was acquired by the Blue Jackets in the off-season from Philadelphia, where he played with current Kings centre Mike Richards. He has 15 goals and 10 assists in 39 games with the Blue Jackets this season and is in the first year of an 11-year, $58 million contract that includes a no-trade clause that kicks in next season.
The former 11th overall draft pick in 2003 has spent seven years in the league, his first six with the Flyers.
Carter brings playoff experience to the Kings, having played in 47 career post-season games, recording 13 goals and 21 points.
Johnson joins his third team in his fifth full season in the NHL. The 25-year-old blueliner was drafted third overall by Carolina in 2005 but was traded to the Kings a year later without playing a game with the Hurricanes.
He is in the first year of a seven-year, $30.5 million contract.
In 61 games this season, Johnson has scored eight goals and added 16 assists for 24 points with a plus/minus rating of -12.
