Jimmer Tracking Thread 11-12

So recently me and the head nigga in charge got into a little argument over the NBA prospects of one, Jimmer Fredette. My personal opinion is that Jimmer will be starting this year, and I think he will do quite well for a rookie. The head nigga claims I don't know shit about the NBA and that Jimmer will not start. For this reason, this tracking thread was created. We will see. For now, I leave you with this:

Oh, and even though it was the first pre-season game, Jimmer still balled out and dropped 21 very efficiently [7-11 from the field, 4-6 from 3]. I know its preseason, I know it doesnt mean shit. But still, gotta remember teams have only been practicing for a few weeks.

I like Jimmer a lot. He's in a great situation in Sacramento. I wouldn't like him as a centerpiece of a franchise. I don't think he's that atheltic or dominate skills wise...but playing off of Tyreke Evans and Demarcus Cousins he should do really well. He's not spectacular in any aspec tof his game(besides shooting) but in Sacramento he doesn't have to be. I like his game a lot and he I could see him going for 13-15 a game this season, starting quite a bit and having a really long career.

I like Jimmer, would be surprised if he doesn't start this year. But to be fair, Thornton and Evans are still better then him and are the starters. He'll start if someone gets hurt, but I doubt he beats out Thornton.

I wonder if he will be able to eventually run an NBA offense efficiently. The easiest comparison is Reddick, but Jimmer should be able to create his own shot easier. I just don't know if I would want him as a starting point guard.

Reddick wasn't nearly as strong, wasn't nearly as good a ball handler, rebounder, scorer etc. Reddick was basically a shooter. Jimmer can help you in a lot of different ways.

The guy Jimmer reminds me the most of is Deron Williams. Williams is obviously much better but something about their games or their style seems similar to me.

Thornton and Evans will start but then u have

Salmons, Outlaw, Garcia and Isaiah Thomas Jr to fight for PT. Fredette will surely be the backup PG here.

And everyone on that team can shoot...you even have Donta Greene (who will play more 4 with the load of guards) who will fit under the SF mold as well.

he's gonna have to defend the PG spot...not sure if he can do that at this point but I feel he can run good enough PG offensively, and he's a deadeye shooter from anywhere on the floor.

Redick has turned into a solid defender as well as being a very good shooter.

Yeah, the only comparison between Jimmer and Reddick is that they're both white. Jimmer has crazy range, but IMO he's a better shooter off the dribble. His ballhandling reminds me of Deron Williams, because he uses the same change of pace, hesitation and quick crossover moves, but he isn't the passer that Williams is. Given the fact that he is strong he does a good job of using his body to shield the defender to finish around the rim.....much like Chauncy Billups.

Eh Reddick is overrated defensivly IMO. he's a guy that is working real hard so at times it make shim seem better than he is. he's solid enough but he isn't a guy that I'd really respect that can shut anyone down.

Jimmer is a bit more imposing physically and I think is "framed" better to become agood defender. I like his length a bit more. Obviously the issue will be foot speed to keep up with the elites but it's early yet and he's a smarter basketball player than Reddick is IMO as well.

I can't think of who Jimmer reminds me of. Par tof me says Deron in a lot of ways and in some other ways Kirk Hinrich. Maybe meshing the two. His style of play reminds me more of Deron but his skill set is more towards Hinrich/Billups.

For the record Jimmer was an awful defender in college and will probably be even worse in the NBA, but thats not what he was drafted for. If he becomes as good as a defender as Reddick (which really isnt saying much) im sure the Kings would be happy with that.

It certainly isn't a perfect fit at all but their roles and how well they performed them in college were pretty similar. Jimmer did have the ball in his hands more and is better off the dribble no doubt.

That being said Jimmer had an awful A/TO ratio for a point last year and unless he puts forth an immense amount of effort he's not going to be able to stay in front of most point guards. For as much time that he had the ball last year and all the attention he got 4.3 assists in 36 minutes a game is not very impressive. I can see some similarities physically between Jimmer and Deron but Deron was already miles ahead as a floor general out of college.

I don't know if the Kings are planning on Tyreke or Jimmer running the offense when they're out there together, but nonetheless I don't see him having a lot of success as a point guard at least for the time being. I bet he will easily have double-digit scoring though and in spite of the Kings winning around 20 games overall he'll have a successful year.

Looking at his A:TO ratio at BYU doesn't do him justice honestly. He was that team, and he was required to do everything for them on the offensive in. There just wasn't any other talent on the team [especially after Davies was suspended] so teams would just pressure the fuck out of Jimmer with 2-3 guys and force him pass it/turn it over.

He could really thrive in an off the ball roll for Sacramento, with Evans driving and kicking or Cousins bangin down low and drawin a double for the kickout it Jimmer. It remains to be seen how the Kings will use him though. I do somewhat see the Deron Williams comparision, they have similar body types and Jimmer has a lot of the same hesitation/change of pace type moves. Personally I don't think it is out of the question for him to average around 15 a game, but we will have to wait and see

The Kings will play three guards alot and go small, just like they did last year (Insert Jimmer for Udrih).

That's what they did vs. the W's on Saturday, and that's what we will continue to see them do.
