This is funny. I can see McNabb starting off every press conference with this.
With the trade of Donovan McNabb to Minnesota essentially a done deal, a slightly sticky issue has arose: McNabb, one has to assume, will want to wear the #5 jersey when he pulls on his Vikings jersey for the first time. The problem is, Chris Kluwe currently sports that number. Now, it is not uncommon for money to change hands when a high profile player joins a new team in order for that player to assume ownership of his favorite jersey number, but Kluwe, on Twitter (of course), has indicated that’s not the game he’s going to play. Instead, he would prefer McNabb to assist him in promoting his band.
So here’s the deal. If McNabb comes and wants 5, it’s his, BUT he has to promise to mention Tripping Icarus in at least 5 press conferences.
In a subsequent tweet, Kluwe added a $5,000 donation to the original offer, but that shouldn’t be a deal breaker.
For the uninitiated out there, and to be perfectly honest, why would you need to know this, Kluwe spends his free time when not honing his kicking craft playing bass in a band, the aforementioned Tripping Icaraus (for a primer, see here). Oh yeah, he’s quite the Renaissance Man (case in point, Kluwe later tweeted he was headed to a hobby shop to pick up model supplies). He even opined about his new jersey number, if McNabb takes him up on his proposed arrangement:

Yep, Favre’s old number. Sounds good to me. No better way to put an end to that chapter in Vikings lore than to have a punter assume the iconic #4 jersey.
