Detroit will be the cheesiest team in Madden next year. As for their actual ability in the NFL, they will be ok. We need help at RB, but I think that is more due to our OL than our talent at RB.

Lions agreed to terms with DL Jason Jones, formerly of the Seahawks, on a three-year, $9.5 million contract.

A versatile 26-year-old who played for Lions coach Jim Schwartz in Tennessee, Jones had 10 tackles and three sacks as a reserve for the Seahawks last season. In Detroit, he'll help fill the shoes of free agent defensive linemen Cliff Avril, Kyle Vanden Bosch and Sammie Lee Hill -- all of whom are expected to move on. Jones is a capable pass rusher than can kick inside on third downs. We suspect he will start at left end on base, early-down snaps.

Lions agreed to terms on a five-year, $25 million deal with CB Chris Houston.

The first cornerback domino finally falls. Houston was clearly the Lions' top cover man last season, often used to shadow opposing No. 1 receivers. He's miscast in that role, but would be an excellent No. 2 corner if the Lions choose to add a legit shutdown guy via the free agency or the draft. Now that Houston has signed, the markets for Aqib Talib, Sean Smith, Brent Grimes and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie could develop quickly.

They drafted a solid LT prospect in the first round last year and most fans expected that would mean he would start and move Backus to either G spot. Instead, we let the LT sit on the bench as Backus continued to get beat by fast DEs. We lost our starting RT this year to FA, so that is another gap to fill (although he wasn't that great, imo).

Long story short, the Lions have a shit OL, but continue to add skill position players on offense.

Lions agreed to terms with SS Glover Quin on a five-year contract.

We put "for real" in the headline because this deal was initially reported by ESPN, then withdrawn with the Texans reportedly jumping back into the mix. It's now been confirmed by Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official website. Quin, 27, is an effective run support safety whose cover skills have been overrated in some circles. He has some experience covering slot receivers, but it hasn't typically gone well. Quin did rack up 84 tackles, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles at strong safety in Houston last year. He'll be on the IDP radar as a DB2/3 with some upside behind a leaky Detroit front seven.

Bush's contract was more then reasonable too. 4-year, $16M deal has a $4M signing bonus. His '13 cap number is $2M.

Quite frankly, I haven't been this excited to be a Lions fan this early in the off-season. I'm just glad we are being aggressive in free agency finally. GQ is a great pickup and there's talks that Delmas and Avril returning as well. Time to hit CB, OL, LB, and WR (yes WR) in the draft.
