BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- Browns coach Eric Mangini is questioning whether the Detroit Lions faked injuries to slow down Cleveland's no-huddle offense.

Mangini, who bemoaned the final, chaotic seconds of Cleveland's 38-37 loss Sunday, noted the Lions had several players leave the field injured, only to return. Mangini was asked if he was accusing Lions coach Jim Schwartz, whom he worked with previously in Cleveland, of having his players fake injuries.

"I'm just saying there were a lot of them," Mangini said Monday.

Mangini also feels the officials made an incorrect pass interference call at the end of the game, which gave the Lions an untimed down on the Cleveland 1-yard line. On the extra snap, Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford threw his fifth touchdown pass.

I didn't see the game on TV so I can't say anything about the injury thing, but I'm sure a lot of players do it and its a smart thing to do.

I can definitely tell you there was pass interference on the last play. Bryant Johnson got pushed out of the end zone right in front of the ref and Calvin got flipped up, CJ might not have been interfered but Bryant Johnson definitely was.

Mangini is just mad because his team blew a 24-3 lead to the Lions and because our young quarterback outperformed his.

Yeah its not really not done often, but especially when a defense is tired late in a game you'll see someone over-react an injury to get their team a rest. Football is a physical game too, so its hard to say what is and isnt an "injury".. dudes are hurting on every play, sometimes they glorify it to benefit the rest of the squad.

There are rules, but the Lions were smart enough to avoid those situations. The key points for timeouts to occur is...

1. Clock has to be running.
2. Clock has to be in the final two minutes.
3. Your team must be out of timeouts.

If all three are not met, there is really no penalty for an injury timeout. If the Browns get an incompletion and the defense is tired, go ahead and fake an injury. It won't hurt anything.

You should get your facts straight. The MNF game was NOT a planned walk out. That was just one of the many reasons Randy Lerner met with the Cleveland fans about. To deter them from the walk out, which was then axed by the fans.

Regardless of this however, I can't believe what a shit storm Mangini has caused and he hasn't completed a first season yet. Lerner should give Cleveland something to be thankful for, and axe this guy before next week. Won't happen, but it should.

Its ironic because it was Mangini that called for the game's final timeout, which allowed the Lions to sub Stafford back in for the final play. Had Mangini not called a timeout, the Lions would have been forced to use an ice-cold Daunte Culpepper at QB on the game-deciding final play.

I loved Randy Cross botching up EVERYTHING in those last few plays. He is der wurst announcer. He had the wrong Browns player committing the Pass Interference, he said that the Lions should be penalized with a clock run-off when the refs stopped the game for Stafford's injury...even though 1) the gameplay was already stopped due to Cleveland's PI penalty, and 2) the clock was actually at 0:00 already and a final play was added since the game cannot end on a defensive penalty. So, not only should there have been no clock run-off, there was technically no time to run-off to begin with. Then, finally Randy Cross was oblivious to the implications of Mangini calling a timeout as Detroit was lining up for the final play with Culpepper under center.

This is a football. The field is 120 yards (The last 10 in each direction are the "end zone". A touchdown is worth 6 points. You get 4 downs to gain 10 yards. You should fake injuries to get extra timeouts in the NFL.

Go back and listen again, they even said during the broadcast "Cleveland was prevented from staging a walkout, due to Randy Lerner meeting with the fans". And lol @ basing your "facts" on ESPN.
