Matt Ryan

885-1456 (60.8%) 10,061 yards, 66 TD's, 34 INT's, 86.9 rating
Grade given by J Hen: A - The very definition of a young QB who has came into the league and had success right away. Took a huge step in his progression this past season. Fully expect +4,000 yard 30+ TDs and 10 or less INTs this year.
What have ya done for me lately?
Lost in the playoffs 48-21 to Green Bay in Atlanta, going 20-29, 186 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT's, 69 rating
Joe Flacco

878-1416 (62%) 10,206 yards, 60 TD's, 34 INT's, 87.9 rating
Grade given by ralaw: B - Flacco is cerainly the best QB Baltimore has had in many years, but IMO he’s still far from really being the guy that can carry the franchise. He’ll have games where he’s great and games when you wonder where his head is. Has to get better in his progressions, reads, and ball security....and show up against the Steelers.
What have ya done for me lately?
Won in the playoffs 30-7 in Kansas City, going 25-34, 265 yards, 2 TD's, 0 INT's, 115.4 rating
Lost in the playoffs at Pittsburgh, going 16-30, 125 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 61.1 rating
My thoughts...
It seems like Flacco is underappreciated because he can't get over the hump against Pittsburgh. Flacco has certainly had some ugly games in the playoffs so far in his young career and those games seem to overshadow his accomplishments. He looked much better in the playoffs last year. He went into a hostile environment in Kansas City with poise and confidence, and repeatedly took advantage of the Chiefs' young, but talented secondary. He was not free from pressure either(sacked 4 times), but when given time, he outclassed the Chiefs. I came away from that game extremely impressed with Flacco.
Now, I'm not saying that I think Flacco is better than Ryan. I'm not sure what I think, yet. I just think it's interesting that Ryan is almost universally considered the better player when they seem to be very similar and Ryan hasn't even won a playoff game. Like J Hen points out, Ryan has been successful as soon as he stepped into the league. You can say the same thing about Flacco, but it isn't said as much. I think Atlanta fans would argue that Ryan is the leader of the team and capable of carrying the franchise, while ralaw believes that Flacco isn't close to being that guy...even though they have almost identical numbers. Is that because Ryan was drafted #3 overall and is the face of his franchise? Is it because Atlanta seems to have a more vocal and supportive fan base? Just some things I was wondering about when reading the grades on these players and looking at how they are perceived on the board.
