Metal Gear Solid 5??

So about a week or two ago, Konami put the following ad into one of the popular game magazines...

teasing something on 5/18/09 on at the following website....

Before today, the site just showed a field with a dark cloudy sky. Today a countdown appeared with an occasional 5 or S appearing.

As you can imagine, speculation is now in full blown freak out mode. Most are speculating (DON'T HIGHLIGHT IF YOU DON"T WANT AN IDEA OF WHAT HAPPENED IN MGS4) Raiden will be the main character with Snake being done/passed presumably. Obviously the thunder and rainy weather points toward this.

What do you think? I figured if they would make an announcement it would be at e3 but that countdown will end well short of e3.

Well if Raiden is the main character I'd still be happy. They did a great job of making him more bad ass after MGS2.

I have the feeling it wont be a MGS, thought that would be a mean prank. I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

That said, nothing in these teasers points toward ZoE. ZoE is all mech and machines. I don't see how a field with cloudy skies and thunder works for that. And the 5 or S wouldn't fit either. Last I checked there's only 2 ZoEs. Just doesn't seem to work.

I lvoe MGS4 but the sht keep freezing on me and i cant complete the game.

Im at the part where you go back to shadow moses and you return to the PS1 game. Once you gte past the front and actaully enter the base the game freezes and doesnt load. Anyone know what I can do about this?

Try deleting the game data - not your saved game, but the data it installs when you first put the disc in. You'll have to re-install it the next time you play, takes 7 minutes I think, but it could fix it. Otherwise - any scratches on the disc or does your PS3 do this with any other games?

no just this. I barely even play my PS3. Ill try to do this. I tried to go back and reinstall the chapter but the game wouldnt. Hope this works. thanks man.

We are closing in on the 24 hour mark on the countdown (9:00 EST). So tomorrow night we should get a little more of a teaser from them. People have apparently analyzed the flash code for the page according to Kotaku and the following is what they have found. Looks like we are in for more countdowns. But something has to happen tomorrow. Counting down to another countdown and nothing else would be retarded.

In the wake of the site being updated with a naught but a single countdown clock, the flashing of the number "5" (or the letters "S"!) and some thunder & lightning (OMG RAIDEN MEANS THUNDER & LIGHTNING IN JAPANESE), the page's source code has been read, compiled, digested, analysed then read again by some the world's keenest Metal Gear fans, hungry for clues on what it all means.

And they've found the following:

- Analysing the page's source code via Flash, it seems that the current countdown on the site is but one of five clocks that will run on the site over the next few weeks. Absolutely absurd, yes, and PR companies, know it's an abhorrent practice, but what's interesting about this is that the fifth one runs out on June 1. Or, the day of Microsoft's E3 press conference (Sony's is a day later, on June 2).

- The site occasionally flashes white when lightning flashes. At the bottom of the screen, you can clearly see the words "APRIL 2007". Does that mean anything to hardcore series fans?

- The site's search keywords are "Hideo Kojima", "MGS", "METAL GEAR", "NEXT", "game", "Konami", "Kojima game", "KJP", "Kojima Production". Interesting that, if they're search engine keywords, none of them say "MGS5".

So, yes, make of that what you will.

The keywords again point towards this being something MGS related. Interesting though that the timers are setup to end the day of the Microsoft press conference. If that is indeed a 5 in the background then MGS on the 360 wouldn't make much sense to me. If its an S then I don't know what to think. Hopefully the next clue helps weed things out a little.


In other MGS news, looks like MGS from PS1 is headed to the PS Store soon.

i dont think it will be a MGS it hasnt even been a year since 4 came out and the guy who made it said he wouldnt be making anymore.

I feel like it may not be MGS as well but thats cause they are making it obviously point to MGS.

As for Kojima saying he wouldn't be making them anymore, he's been saying that since MGS2.

What riches await patient Metal Gear Solid fans at the end of Kojima Productions days long countdown, now that the teaser timer has reached the zero hour? Why, more waiting of course!

Kojima Productions, in a completely unexpected move, revealed another countdown today, this one an impressive 120 hours in length. Clearly, Hideo Kojima and his merry team of hype engineers enjoys stretching the patience of their fans, offering up a new, noticeably darker, more stormy teaser page full of heavy rain and thunder crashes.

The new version of the teaser offers more than just the numeral "5" to fans, it also flashes with the occasional "e," "E" and "3." What could it possibly mean?!

First countdown ended about an hour ago. Some new letters/numbers appearing on the screen. No idea what any of this means.

Something either 5 or S at E3.

Alright, I think we can all but confirm this is definitely something MGS now without a doubt. The second timer ran out yesterday. Another timer appeared. The background has grown increasingly gloomy and the storm stronger yet. There is another timer.

Now, occasionally you get the letters/numbers e, 3 P, S or 5, and R from what I have gathered. And then theres the biggy...

To top it off, Kotaku has gotten there hands on an early release of a popular Japanese video game magazine which shows the countdown with similar pictures of Raiden which I assume will start showing after this countdown completes. Here's their article...

Leaked scans from the upcoming Famitsu show another familiar Metal Gear character: Raiden.

Raiden means "thunder and lightning" in Japanese — fitting as the teaser site has mostly been thunder and lighting. Oh, rain, there has been rain. (Who knows though if this character is actually Raiden, maybe it's Gray Fox?)

Those hoping for a plethora of details from the Famitsu reveal, tough luck. The title of the article is "Director Kojima Interview With Tons of Blanked Out Words: Talking The Latest MGS."

The interview seems to be mostly that: blanked out words.

See all those white dots? Those are blanked words. The big text on this page shows an exchange between the interview and Kojima. The interview asks, "Is it okay to print everything?" (Which gives substantial insight onto how Famitsu rolls.)

Kojima replied, "If you blank out words, it's okay."
