Mike Conley gets massive extension

The Memphis Grizzlies signed point guard Mike Conley to a contract extension late Monday night, according to his agent and father, Mike Conley Sr.

Conley Sr., who along with Bill Duffy represents his son, would not specify the terms of the contract. But other sources with knowledge of the situation said the deal is worth $45 million over five years.

If Conley can maintain his current production he'll be a good pg, but not 9 million worth; however, it seems every year a player gets such an extension. I'd say Rudy Gay isn't worth 80 million either. What's strange is that during the offseason the Grizzlies were making news for wanting to pay rookies on performance rather than what they were slotted to make.

All these owners cry poor, and insist that salaries must come down, then wilt when it comes to negotiating. Handing out dumb contracts is part of the job description for an NBA GM/Owner.

Hes probably playing above his head at his current averages of 15 ppg, 8apg, 4 spg but he came out and busted his ass so far this year. They grossly overpaid for an average starting PG.

I have no problem with Rudy's contract, hes a monster and deserves the big payday.

Conley's numbers last night: 18 points, 13 assists, 7 rebounds, 3 steals on 6-13 shooting

Only problem is, his defensive assignment was Monta Ellis who put up 39/9/8 with 3 steals of his own.

In fairness to Conley I don't think there's anyone in the league that could bottle up Monta Ellis.

Conley is balling the fuck out right now, this is probably a case of the Grizzlies thinking that hes finally coming into his own and wanting to lock him before he may be worth even more on the open market. We'll see if he can keep it up, I think he has the skills to do it, he just needs to find consistency in his game.
