New Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell is unlikely to keep coach Mike Mularkey, according to sources inside and outside the organization, although no final decisions have been made.

That would be a quarter of the NFL coaches losing their job this off-season, pretty crazy when you think about it. Some of the guys have not put up results, but it was also clear that this Jags roster was pretty bad, and Mularkey entered a pretty bad situation here. I think you've got to give the guy another year, but if a new direction is being implemented by the new GM and doesn't think Mularkey fits the build, I can definitely understand it.

Mularkey was the perfect hire.

Lame duck GM hires a corch that will lead you to one of the worst records in football and it allows both of them to get fired.

Why does the new GM HAVE to give Mularkey a second chance? This is his team to build now and he wants to clean house. Isn't that usually how it goes? I mean it's not like Mularkey has shown in the past that he can turn around a team. He's 16-32 in his career as a head coach and I'm sure the new GM doesn't want to be associated with losing. The future of this team is going in a new direction, and it's only right that a new head coach is at the front of that.

Any jags fan knew this was going to happen with a new GM. Gene Smith was a yes man for Wayne Weaver and it was only a matter of time before he was fired. No coach with common sense would want to inherit the poopslop that Gene Smith drafts/signs except for a coach desperate for a job. Now that Smith is gone and Mularkey will be gone soon enough, Caldwell and possibly Roman can gut this organization and start all over. For once as a Jags fan i believe this franchise will be heading in the right direction and actually believe it.

The stadium is a ghost town, the team's talent is highly suspect, the owner may force you to bring a QB who can't throw and is a lighting rod for controversy into the fold...

They're going to have to gamble on a young coordinator or college coach who no one else is courting IMO.

Tebow ain't coming to Jax.

At his introductory press conference, new Jaguars GM David Caldwell shot down any chance of Tim Tebow playing in Jacksonville.

"He is a member of the New York Jets," said Caldwell. "I can't imagine a situation where he's a Jacksonville Jaguar ... even if he's released." He obviously sat down with pro-Tebow owner Shad Khan and made his feelings on the subject crystal clear. Tebow is not what Caldwell is looking for in a quarterback. It's easy to see why the new GM would avoid the circus that would accompany Tebow back to northern Florida. It's a major blow to Tebow's chances of landing a starting job in 2013. The press conference's other interesting revelation was that Khan forced Caldwell to go back for a second interview with the Jets to make sure the Jaguars job was the right one for him.

Now the head coaching search begins.

The Jacksonville Jaguars fired Mike Mularkey on Thursday morning and will now begin their search for a new head coach and some more names have started to surface. San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman is the rumored favorite to land the job, but according to Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports some other names have emerged.

Along with Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, it's rumored that San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan are candidates for the job.

Fangio has been the defensive coordinator for the past two seasons, also serving as the defensive coordinator at Stanford with 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh in 2010. Prior to that he served as a position coach with the Baltimore Ravens and as the defensive coordinator with the Houston Texans from 2002 to 2005.

Mike Nolan is currently the Falcons defensive coordinator, but has extensive NFL experience as a defensive coach and was the head coach of the 49ers from 2005 to 2008.
