This is the third of four awards we'll be voting on at VSN. I'll have the NL MVP up later today and then the Manager of the Year sometime tonight or tomorrow.
The AL MVP is a pretty compelling race, Josh Hamilton is the prohibitive favorite, but due to missing the last 30 games, the door is open for some other candidates. You could certainly make a good case for Cabrera based on stats, or Bautista if you only care about homers. Based on importance to their teams, Longoria/Cano are worth being in the discussion as well. The rest of the guys had great seasons, but are here just to round out the list:
Jose Bautista, OF, Toronto Blue Jays
Key stats: 569 AB, 148 H, 54 HR, 124 RBI, .260 BA, .378 OBP, .617 SLG
Adrian Beltre, 3B, Boston Red Sox
Key stats: 589 AB, 189 H, 49 2B, 28 HR, 102 RBI, .321 BA, .365 OBP, .553 SLG
Miguel Cabrera, 1B, Detroit Tigers
Key stats: 548 AB, 180 H, 38 HR, 126 RBI, .328 BA, .420 OBP, .622 SLG
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York Yankees
Key stats: 626 AB, 200 H, 29 HR, 109 RBI, .319 BA, .381 OBP, .534 SLG
Josh Hamilton, OF, Texas Rangers
Key stats: 518 AB, 186 H, 32 HR, 100 RBI, .359 BA, .411 OBP, .633 SLG
