[MLB AWARDS] AL ROY

This is the first of 8 polls I will be conducting (ROY, MVP, Cy Young, Manager of the Year for each league). I will try to get all the polls up by the end of the week, with two going up each day.

First, is rookie of the year. We already have a thread for the NL ROY, and I realize a few other awards have threads devoted to them right now, but I'm gonna start a new poll for each award, now that we've had an extra month to hear everyone's case.

So who is your AL ROY vote? It's a pretty thin field, but here are the candidates:

Brian Matusz, LHP, Baltimore Orioles
Key stats: 10-12 W-L, 175.2 IP, 4.30 ERA, 143 K, 1.34 WHIP

Austin Jackson, OF, Detroit Tigers
Key stats: 618 AB,, 181 H, .293 BA, 27 SB, .345 OBP, 103 R

Danny Valencia, 3B, Minnesota Twins
Key stats: 299 AB, 93 H, .311 BA, 7 HR, 40 RBI, .799 OPS

Neftali Feliz, RHP, Texas Rangers
Key stats: 39 S, 68.1 IP, 2.73 ERA, 71 K, .89 WHIP

I love me some Neftali, and his WHIP is eye-popping, but he did only pitch in 68 innings all year. Had to vote for Austin Jackson.

Austin Jackson is the only one that's really possible to vote for. Neftali is the only other possibility but a. you can give it to a closer, and b. he pitched less than 70 innings on the entire season.

I'm a homer so I pick Brian Matusz. Sure he doesn't deserve it compared to the other guys but he'll be in talks for the CY Young years down the road.

It's not worth anything, but Keith Law voted him number one in his column. He only has an official vote in MOY though. Law's reasoning for Matusz was that he pitched in the AL East in front of a shit defense and pitched relatively well.

went with Matusz, numbers are pretty good considering the offense he had to pitch for

Matusz really struggled early in the season but after the All Star Break he really came into his own. Had the Orioles been a better team to start the season he probably would have been in real consideration for the award. Oh well.

I can understand not giving it to him because he pitched less than a certain number of innings but not giving it to him based on the fact that he is a closer is absolutely retarded.

That was an even weaker field than this though. The BA and the steals are gonna get Jackson over.

I love me some Feliz though, still wish he had a tomahawk on his chest.

The thing with voting a closer for ROY (for me at least) is the guy has to be far and away the best like Bailey was last year.

Feliz had a hell of a year, don't get me wrong, but he wasn't lights out dominant or far and away the best rookie in the field.

Matusz shouldnt even be considered. His numbers are mediocre across the board.
I don't care about his division, that's absurd, i'm not giving ROY to a guy with a 4.30 ERA, an average WHIP, and a losing record to boot. Especiall not when you have Jackson who had a very solid offensive year, and Feliz who was pretty dominant as a closer.

I'd say Feliz, but have zero gripe with Jackson.
