[MLB AWARDS] NL Cy Young

This is the fourth of 8 MLB post-season awards polls. The NL and AL MVP will be up tomorrow afternoon, followed shortly by the Manager of the Year.

The NL Cy Young race seemed to be locked up at midseason, but Ubaldomania faded a bit as his numbers dipped slightly and his team was unable to get back into playoff contention despite a torrid August.

There is one candidate who jumps out at you, and should win this hands down, but all in all it was a pretty deep field.


Roy Halladay, RHP, Philadelphia Phillies

Adam Wainwright would have won this if he didn't pitch so bad against shitty teams down the stretch and if we made the playoffs.. April-July, Adam was the best pitcher IMO.

I'm not trying to be a dick here but, who cares? The regular season lasts through September. If Wainwright was the best pitcher until July (which isn't set in stone -- I'd argue the way he, Jimenez and Doc pitched for much of that time we were looking at 1a through 1c depending on the situation) what difference does it make if he can't keep it up?

Agreed. A lot of irrelevent information in these award threads. For instance, someone argued that Heyward should be the NL ROY because "he was the best player on the Atlanta Braves". Beg pardon, but I thought we were talking about the NL ROY award, not the Braves Team MVP award.

I think that was me, and I was just noting that carrying a playoff team offensively as a 20-year-old can't hurt his case.

Posey gets credit for doing the same thing, but his lineup is a little stronger around him.

I would think that the MVP award would almost always go to a player on a top team, whereas the ROY can go to a player on a bad team (and, from a certain point-of-view, would more likely go to a player on a bad team). I think team performance is more important for the MVP than for the ROY.

Did I say that he deserved the Cy Young? No. I said, in my opinion, he was the best pitcher through July, and he did fuck up his chance of winning the Cy during the last two months.
