[MLB AWARDS] NL ROY

This is the second of eight post-season polls. I will try to get them all up by the end of the week, with two going up each day.

Let's look at the NL, where the field was much stronger than the AL. There are many candidates worthy of nomination, but I expect this to be a two man race between Posey and Heyward.

Anyway, here are the nominees, it was hard to narrow it down to 5. Apologies to Ike Davis:

Posey and Heyward are the only real options here. Heyward should win IMO, but I think Posey will get it.

I honestly don't think Posey will ever win the MVP. Pujols alone being in the NL is going to make that too hard for him to win it. Plus people like Votto and now Heyward. Only way I see him winning it is if he puts up a Joe Mauer MVP type season and I honestly don't think he'll be capable of that.

I don't see how Heyward gets it over Posey. Despite playing in 34 more games and having nearing 200 more plate appearances, Posey had 25 less runs scored, 20 less hits, six less doubles, same amount of dingers, five less RBIs, better OBP and better fielding percentage. Plus, also consider Posey had to handle the Giants pitching staff.

I don't see how Heyward gets it over Posey. He caught for 76 games, let's not overstate that factor.


This is a case when stats only tell you part of the story. Use common sense, Heyward is the better overall player.

Remember that Heyward 's average hit the tank with a.181 July (bruised thumb which eventually led to a DL stint.)

Since the DL stint, Heyward has outperformed Posey.

Posey's 1st half: .350/.389/.569
Posey's 2nd half: .283/.340/.472

Heyward's 1st half: .251/.366/.455
Heyward's 2nd half: .302/.419/.457


Without the injury, Heyward put together the most complete season.

Not to mention he started from opening day and is the Braves best overall player at 20-years old.

Oh, and he posted the 5th best OBP in the entire league, and the 8th-best OBP and third-highest walk total EVER for a player under 20.
