Update: The A's designated Fuentes for assignment Tuesday, according to the team's official Twitter page, as the team had to make room to activate starting pitcher Bartolo Colon.
Recommendation: We're still wondering why the team named Fuentes the closer earlier in the season - unless they were looking to shop him in a deal or just wanted to reward him by sneaking in that 200th career save - but he's fallen off a cliff since losing that job. On the season, Fuentes is 2-2 with five saves, three blown saves and a 6.84 ERA in 26 relief appearances. If some other team wants to pick up the 36-year-old, he's probably best used as a left-handed specialist at this point.
