Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed confirmed Wednesday he has a torn shoulder labrum and that it may be affecting his level of play.

Reed, in a Wednesday night radio interview with 105.7 The Fan, admitted the injury may be negatively affecting his play.

Reed, who isn't listed on the Ravens' injury report, didn't specify which shoulder is injured, or when the injury occurred.

The former NFL Defensive Player of the Year has 24 tackles and two interceptions in six games this season.

The amount of injuries isn't even funny anymore. Who would have thought that essentially all of the Baltimore playmakers would be on the shelf in October?

Also, if the Redskins were fined for saying two weeks ago that RGIII was "shaken up" with a concussion, then Baltimore should certainly be fined for not even including this on the injury report.

In football, definitely, but it's obvious that Reed's not 100%. He's not wrapping up on his tackles, and just throwing around shoulder hits hoping he can knock someone down.
 
Ive torn my labrum in my right shoulder in high school baseball. It's not a comfortable injury bybanynmeans but you can play through it...lol unless your throwing an object with your torn shoulder then your fucked with wood spoon lol then it becomes a painful injury.....I love ray Lewis but I do agree FUCK THE RAVENS lol
 
Yeah, not comfortable by any means.

He's likely going through a couple of dislocations/subluxations a game. NFL guys are grown men and their pain tolerance probably directly reflects that but you can put money on the fact his tackling is only going to get worse as the season progresses. Braces for this type of injury don't really help.

what about tackling ?
 
None of these defensive injuries really matter all that much. Reed is still going to play, and he didn't tackle to begin with, so where's the difference there? Ray Lewis is no better than his replacement Ellerbe at this point. Webb gets hurt and they have a 1st round pick in Jimmy Smith stepping in. Suggs will be back after the bye, if not this Sunday. They were 28th in the league defensively with the full compliment of players, can't get much worse.

I've said before and will say again that the only thing that's going to matter is if Flacco or Rice gets hurt. They are the guys who are carrying this team, and I guess Boldin too. Until that happens, they'll keep winning games like they have been. Probably not this weekend, but I had this game as a L even with Lewis/Webb.
 
Maybe I had a much worse injury (granted ligaments were also damaged and torn) but in my ied blast I shredded my labrams and could not use my left arm at all.

Yours was probably worse man.

I tore up my labrum pretty good in HS playing ball and because I chose to play with it anyway I ended up tearing up my rotator cuff too. Add broken pieces of bone in there and my shoulder was pretty nasty by the time I was 18. I could still play, could even hit as hard as I wanted to, but wrapping up was an afterthought and the worst part was the dislocations during sleep.

A Labrum tear will still allow you to have a mostly functional arm but if it's pushed in a specific direction there's nothing stopping the joint from dislocating.

I agree with you, but I will say that Jimmy Smith may be 1st round pick, but he's no Lardarius Webb.

No doubt, Webb is one of the five best CBs in football and you don't just replace a guy like that, but Jimmy should be able to do a good job out there. He's got the talent and has played well enough so far.

That's not my problem, the problem is the guy behind him. Smith can probably handle most #1's in the league, but now you've got your nickel corner starting, and your dime corner moving up as well, then the guy behind him. The Ravens have some good depth, but is it that good?
 
They signed Corey Graham in the offseason as depth and for special teams, I have no idea if he is good or bad, haven't seen many Bears games over the years. After that they have Chykie Brown, a second year guy from Texas, and Asa Jackson, a rookie who impressed in the preseason. Don't really know what to expect from any of them.
