Penn is one of those guys that the fans are always going to care about, but styles make fights so it's not about being a fan favorite or not. Caring about Penn isn't going to make me spend $50 on what's likely to turn out to be a rather boring fight. Which is why I don't get how hype, personality or trash talk can suddenly peak someones interest in a fight. None of that stuff matters once the cage closes and does nothing to make the fight itself (come Sat night) any more or less entertaining. Rampage vs Rashad perfect example, great hype, shitty fight.
To take it even further, the UFC is over-rated in terms of delivering good fights. How many great $50 worthy main events have they had in the past couple years? Edgar vs Maynard, Rampage vs Machida, Silva vs Sonnen, Edgar vs Penn 2, Chuck vs Franklin, and that's about it for me going all the way back to 105. So about 5 or 6 great main events in the past 20+ PPVs.
StrikeForce has been way more consistent at delivering great matchups that lived up to the hype, plus it's free and they have half the roster that the UFC does yet they still outperform them.
