The website also claims that USC OLBs Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews tested positive for steroids. Information like this is sometimes circulated by teams in hopes players' stocks will fall and no other reputable sources have picked up the reports to this point, so take this cautiously. Harvin, Davis, Matthews, and Cushing are all projected first-round picks.

how about it. they have rules about everything else, why not shit like this. This is messing with the lives and careers of young players. Granted they will be millionaires but still falling from 10 to 15 because of this is about 4-5 mill

Riiight....because if an NFL team was planning to select Brian Cushing and 'rumors' came out that Cushing tested positive for steroids, then the NFL team would not have the resources or motivation to pursue the matter further and instead would just throw up their hands and say "I heard Cushing tested positive for steroids, but there is absolutely no way for us to find out if this is true...so I guess we won't draft him."

Only a fool would believe that an NFL team would circulate a rumor that Cushing was on roids, IN HOPES OF DRAFTING CUSHING and not fearing the public backlash...oh wait, I saw Killa Pand just posted in this thread:rofl:

Generating malicious rumors is not exactly new.

One of the classic examples occurred before the 1989 draft. Florida defensive back Louis Oliver was supposed to be a top 10 selection, but rumors of drug use, which he was forced to publicly deny, made his stock drop, and he was not chosen until No. 25 by Miami.

No one can say for certain, but some team officials say they think an N.F.L. team official leaked to the news media the drug test results of Michigan State wide receiver Charles Rogers, whom Detroit is expected to take with the second pick over all. Several months ago, the N.F.L. informed Rogers that there was too much water in his urine in a test conducted by the league after the college season. Excessive water is sometimes used as a masking agent, and his results were flagged as questionable. His drug test results were reported only recently.

I can't find any NFL teams being directly implicated in leaking false drug test information, but at the same time I don't think I'm a fool for not immediately rejecting the claim.

Accorsi comment: where does it say that teams will leak rumors about drug and steroid use?! I'm sure teams leak rumors about whom they want to take, whom they aren't interested in, whom they think may have lingering injury concerns, etc. Again, I would have a hard time believing an NFL team would start a rumor that a guy is on steroids, then draft that same guy.

Louis Oliver situation: where does it say that a team purposely leaked rumors about Oliver's drug use? Where does it say that the Dolphins leaked the rumor?

Charles Rogers situation: You forgot to bold the second part of the story, which said that there was indication of Rogers using a masking agent.

I think it's fair to say rumors about drug use would fall under this. But of course I'm just a "fool" so what do I know.

I loved Louis Oliver...I couldn't care less about his drug conspiracy, was happy we selected him!

Don't forge the infamous "Dan Marino is a cocaine addict" rumor also. That definitely effected his career.

And thats not really what I'm saying. I thought I was clear that I was talking about the steroid rumors and Brian Cushing. A guy rumored to have smoked pot is a bit different than a guy rumored to have tested positive for steroids. One, steroids are a bigger deal than pot, because its a performance-enhancer and it can mean that the player really isn't that good but benefited from steroid use. Two, it would be easier to corroborate a positive steroid test than some second-hand story that Warren Sapp smoked pot at Miami. Third, as I said before, I think it would be retarded in this day and age for an NFL team to use a 'steroid rumor' as their method of getting a draft prospect fall to them. It would almost be better if Cushing was rumored to be a homosexual.

Honestly, I cannot believe that any college would accept you. Its not possible for a person to still misunderstand what I am saying (that not all 'misinformation' is the same, spreading steroid rumors is different than spreading a rumor of "Reggie Bush is our #1 guy", etc.). If you think teams spread steroid rumors about draft prospects in hopes of being able to select the prospect later in the draft, then I guess 'so be it'...but at the very least you should be able to recognize/understand what I am saying. Is English not your first language or something?

Although I'm not going to go in depth what you saying here, and I would doubt that a team would do that in the idea that if they were caught it would be a PR nightmare...
