I just want opinions on this movie idea that sort of flew into my head a little bit ago...

Everyone knows about 2012 and if you dont the Mayans say on December 23, 2012 the world ends. Some people believe it, some think its poppycock but what if we followed the footsteps of a man whose a believer as we countdown to the end of days?

Follow him as he tries new things for the first time in his life, takes chances he wouldn't have years prior, and goes after the girl of his dreams as he learns more about himself, about life, and about the world around him in mankind's last year of existence than in any previous years combined.


I just want to know if this catches your interest and if not why not? Throw ideas out or whatever... will give thanks for your troubles.

No the movie ends with the world not ending and him thinking back on the years events and realizing how he had the ability, strength, courage, etc to do the things hes always wanted to do and didnt need a countdown to face the world anymore to push him and motivate him... its all a bit rough right now.


And i know, I thought about that at first but the general consensus, i think is that the worlds going end so im just gonna go with that.

The Mayans looked to 2012 as a positive event where the world would truly discover peace and triumph over materialism, the whole doomsday bullshit was invented by our fear-mongering media. The world isn't going to end, and it never will, just life as we know it.

Or starts over. Their calendar was set up when the planets all lined up. On Dec 23, 2012, they line up again.


Odd people will say this is what will kill us all, but every year we follow a smaller scale thing in our yearly calender and returning to where we started.

Be sure to write lots of funny moments in, eg. Guy is late to first date with girl because he loses pants on the bus but then realizes the world is ending and, who cares, so they go on their first time with him pantsless. It really draws the audience into his endearing charm and carefree attitude.

Make sure it's written with a good cast in mind. Ashton Kutcher seems like a good guy to have been really anal and severe before "letting loose". Make sure the female is a really severe person like Katherine Heigl who is weirded out at first, but learns to love him. She will mirror the audience in this respect.

Be sure to include scenes of them doing wild things like skydiving, eating crickets, and traveling to dirty third-world countries where the people will love them because of their whiteness and the presence of a camera.

I have a title for you. Call it "Last Year for Love". Be sure it releases on December 23, 2012 with the tagline "Let yourself love and be loved... before time runs out."

When you strike box-office gold, I expect my $10 million consulting check to be in my mail no less than a month later.

Or it could be part of the story, the guy thinks it ends on the 23rd but in reality it happens 2 days before when he's not ready yet. Could be an interesting message to go along with that.

Kutcher's character should be friends with a wise cracking 10 year old black kid. Heigl should also be a high powered attorney, or business woman. That way she goes out with a guy she never normally would because its the end of the world!

Any movie with Ashton Kutcher is bound to be bad. You need someone with more depth like........James Franco!

Zac Effron is like 20, half of the stuff he does is automatically gonna be for the first time.

Yeah Effron is a no go. You could go with Paul Rudd I suppose. If you wanted to take it a more dramatic route, my suggestions were James McAvoy and Emily Blunt. Clearly the romantic comedy angle wouldn't work, but you make it a mainstream movie that acts like its an indie movie.

Your ending would be the two characters holding hands looking up at the sky while leaving it up to the audience to decide whether or not the world ends.

What if you dropped the whole end of the world thing, and made the movie about Ashton Kutcher hooking up with a chick. But then they fall in love, and find out a lot about themselves along the way! That sounds a little less mainstream to me.
