My Two Dynasty Alignment Options

With teams swapping conferences like keys at a swinger's party it figures it's time to take this Custom Conference option in NCAA 2012 and do some real good with it. Revert the NCAA back a few decades and see what happens. I've come up with two basic options. 1990 and 1993.


First, the 1990 inspired alignment.

Since the Custom Conference alignment prevents us from deleting conferences for the Big East and Conference USA, both of which did not exist, I simply used the overall team ratings and plugged in the worst 8 teams ratings wise into the conferences. That allowed me to keep the major teams that were independent as such. I had to put five in each as if only had the minimum of four there were too many teams in the Independents.

Automatic Bids for the BCS go to:

Big 8
Big 10
Pac-10
SEC

That leaves two at large bids in the BCS Bowls.

Conference Bowl Ties:
Rose Bowl: PAC10 Champion vs Big 10 Champion
Orange Bowl: Big 8 Champion
Sugar Bowl: SEC Champion
Fiesta Bowl: None

Same idea as before with Conference USA. It didn't exist so I took the four lowest rated Independent teams and slotted them in.

The other thing I was going to toy with is only giving automatic bids to the Pac 10, Big10, Big 8 and SEC just so the tie-in's stay true and leaving the other 4 slots wide open......In fact I will do that....CHAOS!

Not a fan of either of these since you are using the Sun Belt as your +1 "BCS" conference. Any particular reason why? If anything I would move the Big 8 out of the Big XII to give the SWC their traditional Cotton Bowl bid. You wouldn't even have to give them a BCS bowl, just let the champion go to the Cotton Bowl if they aren't an at-large.

I just edited. What I did was only give auto BCS bids to the conferences that had bowl tie ins at the time(Big 8, Big 10, PAC10, SEC). Every other spot is now up for grabs.

Well I guess if you can live with Texas, TCU and Texas A&M playing in the New Orleans bowl, GoDaddy.com bowl and Beef 'O' Brady's bowl, then you are all set. That would just ruin it for me though.

Yeah it sucks we can't mess with the other Bowl tie ins and there is no dynamic conference prestige but we'd have to make it work best we can.....

I used the Sun Belt as the makeup for the Southwest conference because the Sun Belt covers Texas and Arkansas the way that the old SWC used to.

Exactly what I was thinking, but then you also lose out on Nebraska, Oklahoma, etc. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I don't know if you will be able to do the 1990 setup because you have 32 Independents and I think the max you can have is 30. I could be wrong though.

Still working on tweaking this...

What I might do. Create the old SWC in place of the current Big 12(so you have the Cotton Bowl tie in). Create the old Big 8 out of either the Big East or Mountain West(giving that Big 8 the Orange Bowl tie in). That would give each of them some more "major" bowl tie ins. Rather than having a Big East in the 1990 version full of sucky teams soaking up some mid tier bids. Might make more sense to create the Big 8 out of the MWC give them the Orange Bowl tie in as with only 8 teams that newly formed Big 8 won't need the 6 or 7 bowl bids....

Fuck EA for not letting us edit every bowl tie in.

Honestly I picked 1993 as a year because it was my favorite season of Notre Dame football ever. (Fuck the pollsters that gave F$U the NC)...anyways...I'm waiting for the patch and rosters to drop before I do anything so I have time...

Northern Illinois being in The Big West made me LOL though.

Honestly the SWC existing in either I am fine with. Arkansas being in or out isn't an issue for me. The sticking/tipping point for me is having all those baller Independents in 1990(ND, FSU, Miami, Penn St, WVU, etc) or having them in conferences in 1993......
