Name Your Team's WORST season

Couple of rules:

1) You have to have been following the team, or alive, during the season in which you state. For example, if you were born in 1980 you can't list the 1976 Bucs as their worst season. It has to be something you witnessed.

2) Give some reasons as to why.

For me, eventhough I was around for the 0-14 Bucs, I gotta go with the 1986 Bucs as the worst squad in franchise history. Granted the '76 Bucs went 0-14, but, they were an expansion team and they did have some talent.

The 1986 Bucs on the other hand, were down right putrid. They went 2-14. Not sure how they won 2 games (VS Detroit & Buffalo) with what they had on the field, but, they managed to scrape two wins together. Not only was the talent level depleted, but, veterans were released in the middle of the season to save money! Probably the worst team and worst season in franchise history. I was on the verge of actually writing off the organization when Culverhouse pulled that BS off. That and the fact that Bo Jackson blew us off also sucked. However, that also had to do with Culverhouse telling Bo that he couldn't date white women if he wanted to play in Tampa - seriously, that actually happened. Culverhouse told Jackson that kind of behavior would not go over well with the people of Tampa or himself.

Falcons season with Bobby Petrino, Vick's first season he couldnt play. Petrino was a terrible coach, we had 4 different QBs throughout the year. Petrino leaves towards the end of the season. 3rd Overall Pick.

But thankfully the next year we get a great new front office and coaching staff as well as 2 new key players on the roster: Matt Ryan and Michael Turner.

Exactly, although lately, you could argue a few different seasons where we played ourselves out of getting great draft picks by scrounging up a late win or two.

2005 Packers. 4-12.

Ted Thompson had just inherited the team from Mike Sherman, who was still the head coach, but had been the GM for years leading up to 2005.

Mike Sherman was an awful GM in terms of managing cap room. Because heading into 2005, the Packers were going to be over the salary cap. Ted Thompson was brought in and he started making cuts. He started by letting go of S - Darren Sharper, and Guards, Mike Wahle and Marco Rivera. Wahle and Rivera were past their prime and Thompson was right not to keep them on. Despite the fact that Favre hated it.

Then the season started and the injuries started piling up. They lost wide receivers Javon Walker and Robert Ferguson and then running backs Ahman Green, Davenport, and Fisher. Samkon Gado ended up playing and became a fan favorite for performing so well under horrible circumstances.

Since the team was so bad off, Favre got really desperate, and when he's desperate he gets reckless and when he's reckless the INTs start coming. 29 INTs that year.

The team thankfully rebounded with an 8-8 season the next year under new head coach Mike McCarthy and then went to the NFC Championship the next year.

I am a falcons fan, so I have to agree with J.Hen. 2007 was definitely the worst season.

The worst season for the Chiefs was easily 2008. They went 2-14. They had the most inept pass rush in NFL history with 10 sacks. Their run defense wasn't much better. The offensive line was so bad that Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard both got injured and Tyler Thigpen actually got to play QB in the NFL. Thigpen couldn't even run an NFL system, so the Chiefs changed offenses mid-season to a shotgun/pistol offense to play to Thigpen's "strengths". The Chiefs had one of the youngest teams in the league last year, so they made a lot of mistakes. Last year's Chiefs team was really frustrating to watch because they were actually IN a lot of the games that they played, and then they would always find ways to fuck things up and lose. The Chiefs were so bad that I boycotted the last several home games. Carl Peterson must have noticed that asses were no longer in the seats because he resigned, which is something I never thought would happen.

I'm actually glad the Chiefs stunk it up last year though because it brought sweeping changes within the organization, which is something I, and Chiefs fans in general have wanted for a long time.

Steelers Super Bowl XXX, the infamous two interceptions thrown to the same guy on virtually the same play that gave Dallas their first win in 3 tries in a Super Bowl against us.

The Raiders 2006, 2-14 season.

It was Art Shells first and final year as head coach. The offense was horrid. Andrew Walter half the time didn't have a clue what he was doing and in 12 games threw only 3 tds to 13 interceptions. With Aaron Brooks under center the offense looked more efficient but still bad. Also Art Shell was terrible at calling plays. Justin Fargas was really the only good thing on the Raiders offense that year, who got more playing time do to the injury to Lamont Jordan that put him on IR. On defense the Raiders still could not stop the run. But they did lead the league in pass defense the year after getting rid of Charles Woodson. They ended 3rd in total defense and pretty much single handedly won the Raiders only 2 games of the season, defeating the Cardinals 22-9 and the victory over the Superbowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers intercepting Big Ben 4 times and winning the game 20-13.

Rough year to start watching all those teams... in the 1998 season the Bears were far worse than the 2004 team. At least in 2004 you had some pieces on the team that would help carry the team to a SB in a few short years like Rex Grossman and Thomas Jones. The 2004 defense although it ended up ranked rather low was actually very good and was the only reason that team won any games. They were just ALWAYS on the field and would wear down. It had most of the key players on it from the 2005 and 2006 defenses that were great. The offense that year outside of Jones was putrid.

1998 was just BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD.

QB's include: Erik Kramer, Steve Stenstrom, Moses Moreno.

Our leading rusher was Edgar Bennett with 697yds

Bobby Engram was our leading WR

Defense included: Barry Minter, Marty Carter, Terry Cousins, Mike Wells, Jim Flanigan etc. Just an awful team.

It didn't get much better seeing as we drafted Cade McNown with our top pick in the next draft.

just so you know, and since you're a two team whore... art shell was the head coach of the raiders before 2006, in the early 90's i beleive. I was pretty sure you were on the iggles nuts this month anyways...

Well the 1992 season was horrible.. the Hawks finished 2-14 and fucked themselves by winning a meaningless game against New England (the decisive factor in Mirer being a Seahawk and Bledsoe being a Pat)..

But since I was 8 when that went down.. I vaguely remember any of it. Last year though.. totally different story. Between the Top 7 WR's being injured all at once.. to having Charlie Frye in there for a couple games.. and our defense being clueless.. and not to mention gut wrenching loss after loss after loss (Niners, Dolphins, Cards, Skins, etc).. it was a really really rough year.

Tennessee Titans-the year they went i think 4-12 and drafted Vince Young 3rd overall. That really tested my will power to stay with the team.

As a season ticket holder in 2003, I have to respectfully decline. That season started with definite title contention aspirations, but after Vick got injured, that shit was all down hill. I remember getting the tickets for my birthday, two to each game. and having a fucking laundry list of friends dying to reserve a game for that upcoming fall.

Well, fast forward to weeks 1-12, and I'm trying to convince anybody who's willing to come down to the Georgia Dome and watch the Doug Johnson/Kurt Kittner show with me. I remember even taking my dad two or three times because none of my friends wanted to go. The place was half empty every week.

It was all worth it for Vick's comeback start in the Sunday night game against the Panthers, but that season was beyond brutal.

I wasn't living in Atlanta during the 07 season, but I can't imagine it was any worse than what was going on in 03. But as a Falcons fan, every other season can be considered the worst ever.

the vikings have had some so-so years but honestly we've been usually somewhat decent. in fact since i started following them in 1985 they've only had 5 seasons under .500 so its just a bunch of "close but no cigar" seasons.

but honestly the worst season imo has to be the 98 season. going 15-1 and only losing the one game by 3 points there was no reason for us to not make the superbowl. losing to the falcons in the nfc championship game easily has to be the most disappointing season i've witnessed.
