Backbreaker is the game engine that many Madden fans want to see, here are some videos & screenshots and a interview. I am impressed by it of course but until I see it on a game disk, it's only hype.

I don't think it's going to work either.

Tackling is completely unrealistic, and unless Backbreaker is just going for the idea that your going for huge hits and sacrificing realism for more action, then it wont work.

what is so "realistic" about a canned animation? something that's pre-determined before it even happens? before you even turn on the console? when you go to make a tackle in Madden....one of X tackle animations is going to play out....each and every time....never different...always one of the same. sure...that's realism for ya. :talktohand:


you assume that every hit in backbreaker is some bone crunching flying dive tackle?....when they are simply just showing off their technology before they release the game to the public.

Madden gets way too much credit because of the NFL brand. If neither game had NFL teams/players this would be a far different situation, but it's not the case. Take away the NFL from Madden and I'd bet my life savings Madden would not be a million copy seller.


Backbreaker's goal isn't to be "The Most Sim Football Game Ever" or to compete side by side with Madden, either. Because of this, many Madden-dolts will take your stance and miss out on something that's looking to be a very fun football gaming experience. But to suggest tackling, that's calculated ON THE SPOT based on all determining factors that in real life would determine the outcome of a collision.... is less realistic than a game that features pre-determined animations is absolute lunacy. Nice to see raczilla thank that post.

Have you seen the latest QORE episode about the tech? How players will extend their arms to break their fall and such? You cannot see this type of AI intelligence in Madden because a pre-canned animation is required, but to design an animation for every such instance where a player would break it's own fall....is down right impossible. People just don't think...

Is it so realistic to play football from the Sky Cam point of view? It's about time we got something different.

I could go on all day, some people sound like they've been brainwashed to believe that Madden is the "right" way or "only" way football can work in a video game. FYI - Madden is trying to compete with a 5 year old game.

I don't see how anyone can pass judgement on the game or hte engine at this point. All we have is a handful of gimmick videos. Games are determined by their trailers.

Unfortunately, I think backbreaker is being mismanaged. Much like 2k, I see this game failing not because of the product, but because of horrific marketing and bussiness decisions.

APF went gimmick with legends and cheesey cut scenes and it really cost them. Gamers want realism. Thats why Madden sales have been slouching, it became an arcade game on Next-Gen ('09 was a complete joke).

If Backbreaker creates a customizable game with realism on the field and market it that way it shoudl work. Unfortunately, they seem bound and determined to market bone crushing NFL Blitz style hits. (Plus, pissing off people by never providing info).

Technically this isn't "Backbreaker" marketing, they are talking about the technology they created...they want to sell that too!

They've slated a big announcement (related to Backbreaker, not Euphoria) for two weeks from now and have suggested they will be at E3.

It's easy to anticipate the game coming out late this year and they'll have ample time to show off the game, rather than the technology.

It is a piss off that things have been delayed to this point, but Madden fans complain the game doesn't do enough on it's yearly dev cycle..... The game's been developing for 2 years give or take and I expect that the delays will only mean more quality in the end product.


I've followed this game VERY closely for the past year and a bit, and people simply don't know enough about the game right now, which has them misunderstanding what they are doing right now.
