Crash Course Campaign Due in September

August 4, 2009 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the next major downloadable content (DLC) update for its co-operative zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead (L4D), the #1 new game title on Xbox 360 and PC in 2008

Entitled "Crash Course," the latest DLC delivers new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay to both platforms. Targeted for release in September, "Crash Course" bridges the gap between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign and the beginning of "Death Toll" in the original game, expanding the game universe with new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale.

While containing both Survival maps and a Co-operative Campaign, the primary goal of "Crash" is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns. A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay.

"Since the release of Left 4 Dead last November, the design team has been excited about creating new experiences for this world and allowing players to do the same, by releasing much of our internal toolset, like the Survival Pack and Authoring Tools," said Gabe Newell. "We're working with the fans toward the ongoing entertainment value of the product."

Left 4 Dead is an action horror game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life series of games. Released in November of 2008, L4D has earned over 50 industry awards from outlets around the world and sold almost 3 million copies worldwide.

Left 4 Dead: Crash Course is targeted for release in September and will be available free of charge on the PC and for 560 Gamer points on Xbox Live.

Secondly, and I can all but guarantee you this is all M$'s doing, but how do the 360 owners get fucked? And what the fuck is 560 points in REAL non-carnival money?!? $6? Even if I were to buy it, which I'm not, I'd be fucked over with some weird ass number of points left over.

I really like L4D for what it is, but it is waaaaaaaaaaay short on content. Charging us for this shit and also releasing a sequel so early is a double slap to the face.

I also find it funny and interesting that these posters use the M$ designation when referring to these dicks...on an OFFICIAL XBOX FORUM. You would think that forum would be full of MS nuthuggers. But when I do it I'm a douche. Oh well.

I also love the point of how the Survival pack was free which is why there weren't any achievements. So true.

L4D can go fuck itself. I've never liked the game and I still don't know why people were content playing the same two stupid levels over and over for months on end then cried in cheer when some stupid mode with a 10min long play time came out.

This whole L4D2 thing is hilarious. There's two sides to the arguement and it really is starting to bring up concerns with basically what will valve do in the future.

I couldn't agree more. L4D is fun but I never understood this big deal. It was so underwhleming as far as content is concerned it's laughable.

I guess because it was Valve everyone had to cream themselves.

The main problem from what I can gather from the steam community is that Valve put the game out with full intent on releasing updates like TF2. The problem was the console community was quite large and with the way MS does everything with content it started to make it impossible for valve.

Valve on PC releases stuff and with steam EVERYONE gets it before they play the game. You simply can't get into any servers (well any of the up to date ones) without having the new content. It worked well and with a PC it didn't matter how big the update was because pushing it out over steam made it easy. Now with consoles and the 360 most users only have a 20Gig HD and the whole need to pay for content (or xbox live) thing. L4D2 was planned as an update originally. The problem was the size of it would be way to much for a console and you'd have to pay for it in some fashion. Valve is essentially saying the console is holding them back. Which in most cases is true.

The whole AI 2.0 and not being able to convert it to the new game is a crock of shit. They managed to upgrade DoD:S to the TF2 engine with no problem but they can't update the director. Suuuuuure.

I won't be buying L4D2 obviously. Only because if they had this problem with the first one whats stopping them from having the same problem again? Not to mention I was told over and over again that they would be putting newer stuff out soon so when I did buy it I thought eh might as well get it now. I only paid $37 for it so I can't complain to much but its the whole beta test new game feel that put me off of it.

No it won't. Its the same game as before but with melee weapons, a bitch load of violins playing and new characters.

I swear the attention span of most people is just astounding. I do not get why people enjoyed this game so much.

btw I quite realize I'm in the minority with this opinion but I simply don't get it.
