*How is it possible for a powerhouse program like Texas to be this bad, especially on defense? They were destroyed by a good-not-great Oklahoma team and some guy named Belldozer. Is this MackBrown’s last year? Also, how is Texas ranked in the top 25 every year?
*South Carolina’s defense got run over, that is, when Les Miles finally stopped letting his QB pass/get sacked. The LSU WRs are equally terrible, dropping everything that hits their hands. That said, South Carolina’s offense was even worse. Spurrier probably cost his team the game by having his moronic QB pass with a lead. The INT was the big play of the game, because it gave LSU field position and set up their winning score. Didn’t see much of Clowney in the 2nd half, as he and Geno Smith of WVU had their Heisman campaigns put on hold.
*Notre Dame-Stanford was a weird game. ND seemed to be in control, but Golson was terrible, and he basically handed Stanford the game by giving their defense an easy TD. As bad as he was, it took an injury to get Golson out of the game and have backup Tommy Rees win it with his arm. Pretty amazing performance by Rees, to come in cold with bad field conditions and a tough defense, and still make all the throws. From what I’ve seen this year, Golson/Rees is looking more and more like Slager/Montana. ND coaching staff must have something personal against Rees. The end of the game was funny, because Stanford had been stuffed all game, yet every play they ran inside the 5 was a run up the middle. Not the most creative playcalling. The last play was weird, because to me it seemed like the official had blown the play dead and was running in to spot the ball, the ND players started celebrating, and then the Stanford guy tries to twist his way into the endzone. Don’t know how the play could even be reviewed if it was blown dead, but oh well.
NFL
*Too much parity in the NFL. Falcons are 6-0 and should have lost to a mediocre Raiders team at home. Every AFC East team is 3-3. Patriots defense makes Russell Wilson look like rookie-of-the-year. A million penalties in the “must win” game between Detroit and Philly. Hard to watch at times.
*Dez Bryant is perhaps the worst “good player” I’ve seen in NFL history. Whenever I see him on TV, he’s dropping key passes and bitching about something. He cost the Cowboys a win against the Ravens, although Jason Garrett’s clock management skills need refining.
*Packers looked good against the Texans. Both the offense and the defense showed up on the same day. This year’s Packers team reminds me of those Peyton Manning Colts teams…they play great if they get up on you early, but they struggle if teams can control the clock against them and keep it close.
*The way things are shaping up in the NFC, I have a feeling the Seattle-GB blown call is going to have a huge impact on who makes the postseason.
*Brandon Weeden has looked pretty good whenever I’ve seen him play, even though the Browns have a poor record. I thought he would be a huge bust in the NFL.
*I think the Eagles would be better off without Mike Vick. The guy has become a turnover machine. They have talent on offense, but Vick spends most of the time fumbling snaps or scrambling himself into sacks. Perhaps Andy Reid’s offense has become too complex for Vick to grasp? Its just strange how Vick can go from MVP candidate to dud even though the talent around him has gotten better.
