My question is how can someone win the MVP but not the offensive player of the year.

It happens. LT won both in '06 and Brady won both in '07 but the past 2 years the winners of the 2 awards have been different.

Offensive Player of the Year deals with statistics. This is where gaudy numbers matter.

Most Valuable Player deals with the best performing player. This deals with how important you are to your team.

Chris Johnson had a 2,000+ yard season. Offensively, that's remarkable. His team was garbage and only 8-8 and he clearly was not as important to his team that year than Peyton Manning was in leading his team to a 14-0 record.

Offensively, Peyton Menning wasn't more impressive than Chris Johnson though, so CJ won offensive player of the year.

Pretty simple.
