You had it wrong. Who won the coin toss won it 7 times. Home team has won it 6 times

Each team should be guaranteed one offensive series.
Coin flips shouldn't decide games.

Or, better yet, a bit of college thinking here.

Each team gets an offensive series until one fails to score.

Say, today's game.

New Orleans gets the FG, Minnesota gets the ball back and gets the tying FG.
Then, if New Orleans gets a FG or TD, Minnesota gets the next offensive series to tie or win the game.

I know it'll never happen, but it would have been a great way to end today's game.

LOL at anyone who thinks mini-games from the 25 is the way to do it.

They should seriously just give both teams a chance to field a kickoff, the only way to ensure that is play for 5 minutes, switch sides, other team kicks off, play for 5 more minutes. Whatever the score is at the end is the score.

That is identical to actual football, and takes the same amount of time. That way, when the ref says "It's just like the start of a new game" he's not bullshitting.

I think since the rule changed where the kickoff happens, it's about 60% of the time where the coin flip winner ends up winning the OT.

That's not outrageous.

The NFL will not adapt the college system. What other format should they use?

first to 6, if you cant stop a team from getting 2 field goals, you lose, if you give up a TD, you lose, you kick a field goal and they score a TD, you lose, very simple

college overtime needs to stay in college

people that say the coin flip decides it are fucking morons. football is three phases; offense, defense and special teams. if you want to win you have to be good in all three... or be facing brett favre in OT.

I don't see why the NFL can't go to the college football overtimes though. Do you really want a great game potenitally ruined by just a flip of a coin? If it's a shootout and both teams can't stop anyone, basically the team who gets the ball first is going to win.

The college football system makes way to much sense for the NFL to put in to effect though.

I was expecting like 80% or something outrageous. 52% is nothing, hell if a team has a 60% chance of winning thats still nothing. We shouldnt blow up the whole OT cuz of a slight edge.

Keep it the same. When a kicker shanks a kick people dont blame it all on the kicker, when a team loses on OT its not the OT formats fault for the team losing. Vikings had a chance at the end of regualtion to win but they couldnt do it.

both teams get one possession, and if we're still tied after one possession it's sudden death

either that or do the college way, but make both teams start at their own 20 or even the 50

i just think the Vikings should have gotten an opportunity to score in OT, the game was too good to come down to that

so u play arena football? i went to a few games when they had a team here. it was fun.

funny story- when i was growing up in the LA area i had a friend whom i played basketball with keep telling me about a guy named jason thomas. How he was going to be a star in football. I think he ended up at Nevada or Reno somewhere there, i could be wrong. Well 1 game i went to is aw him and I was like whole sht. Even though he was just a QB for an aren2 team i wanted his autograph.

5 minutes is a bit short, but you could have 7 or 8 minute halves.

52% from 74-2002, 60% from 2000-2007 - because of rule changes to help offenses? Considering penalties helped the Saints move downfield...

I'd say the system has to be changed with offenses becoming more prevailant.

Also from those stats earlier I automatically am a fan of the 1 coach out of 124 that elected to kick.

One 10 minute quarter. If a team is able to milk all 10 minutes on their first and only drive and end it with a field goal, the other team doesn't deserve to win because they just got mauled.

If it is still tied, it goes to another 10 minute quarter. After that, it is a sudden death 15 minute quarter rule.
