I hope so...
---------------------
Game 1 has to be the worst-managed game I've seen from Don Mattingly. Iffy tags of Mark Ellis aside (I don't even expect that call), multiple blunders in the "strategy" department probably would've saved that game for LA.
Starting with pinch running Dee Gordon for Adrian Gonzalez - not a bad idea in and of itself since A-Gone is slow as hell and it's a tie game in late innings - is negated by not even getting Gordon into scoring position. Really? You put him in there to score, not for a force out at second. That decision was exasperated by bringing in Michael Young to play 1B for the rest of the way. Scott Van Slyke is surely a better hitter than Young and he's not a terrible defender at 1st.
Michael Young had two ABs and made 4 outs. Unbelievable.
Ethier sucking in CF didn't help either (Kemp probably catches that fly ball by Beltran), but that probably doesn't change if it had been Schumaker. Game 1 is probably a W if the OF defense doesn't suck, but that's the price of having Ethier out there. Can't really complain, though. He has been doing better than expected overrall (IMHO*), it just sucks to have that weakness exploited when it matters most.
Game 2: What are you gonna do? No Hanley, no Ethier, slumping Puig, and excellent pitching by the Dodgers and Cardinals. Just gotta tip your cap on that one.
I'm just hoping for a rebound at home and good news from the CT/MRI that Hanley is having today. Happy for Woy to get those first two Ws, it's going to be really tough now that Wainwright will be the guy in game 3. Dodger pitching has been phenomenal in this series, so hopefully that can continue with Ryu and maybe Puig can heat up this offense. I won't be surprised to see Ethier starting on Monday - I think he sat game 2 since it was such a long game after missing so much time previously.
Anyways, it's worst-case-scenario mode for the Dodgers now.
