Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha's contract voided and he will be allowed to become a free agent without the Oakland Raiders being able to use their franchise tag on him, according to an NFL Players Association document.


Asomugha’s deal included a little-known clause that said his contract would void if he didn’t achieve his not-likely-to-be-earned incentives in 2010 -- and he didn'’t.

His contract also contained a stipulation that if he didn’t achieve his incentives, the Raiders would agree not to designate him their franchise or transition player.

To achieve his incentives, Asomugha had to play in a greater number of defensive plays in 2010 than he did in 2009, and this season Asomugha played in only 14 games whereas he played in all 16 in 2009.

He also could have achieved his incentives by improving upon on his interceptions, fumble recoveries or sacks this season -- but he didn't have any interceptions, fumble recoveries or sacks this season.

He will be the top defensive player available whenever free agency begins.

I think we're in a decent position to go after him. We're an up and coming team (well hopefully we are) and he, along with Suh, could be the face of our defense.

Al Davis was expect 2006 for a while now and he wasn't getting it.

Asomugha won't be a bad pick-up for any team but they gotta know that he might not be the corner he once was...

Then again, he could stay healthy all year and blow the fuck up so who knows?

I think the list of teams that will pursue him the hardest are the Cowboys, Eagles and Jets. If Cromartie isn't brought back I would find it hard to believe that the Jets won't get him though.

I doubt many teams, like the Jets, who already have a number one corner will go after him. Not many have the salary space to afford two of them.

I think the Raiders will try to resign him, so I don't see why he would go to a team like the Rams or Lions or another rebuilder when the Raiders will offer him as much money or more even.

I think he will go to a contender or resign with Oakland.

Cromartie has been a solid pickup for the Jets but I assume that he's looking for a nice contract so I think he's let go.

Worse case scenario the Jets will sign another CB and and hope Wilson is ready next year, which he could be.

Best case is a trio of Revis/Aso/Wilson...imagine the blitzes then lulz...

the chances of asoumagah becoming a ram is probably .01% sadly
