I'm headed to the show in a couple of hours. Has the NWA World Title & IWGP Tag Team Titles ever been defended on the same show? I'm thinking at some point in the 70's or 80's. Maybe even the 90's when the Big Gold Belt was still technically the NWA title in WCW? I don't know.

Curious to see how masters is doing in-ring at this point. He improved so much before the E released him...

and the IWGP tag belts only date back to '85, so its possible they were defended on the same show, but it would not have been in the 70s...

Just got back from the show. Seven matches, and all of them were really good except for one (Dane vs Erickson, which was pretty bad).

Some notes...

-The big news is Archer & Davey Boy Jr are now double champions. Great match. Hard hitting, well worked, crowd was way into it. Archer works the apron from the outside better than anybody i've seen. Smith gets better everytime I see him. His stuff is is crisp and believable. Summers & Genesis more than held their own. Killer Elite Squad won it clean with the Killer Bomb. I'd put this at ***3/4, maybe ****.

-The biggest surprise for me was Tokyo Monster Kahagas vs Byron Wilcott. I've seen Kahagas many times, and he's never impressed me. But this match was nothing short of fantastic. I really dug this. They worked super hard, and at a real hard pace. Hard hitting, good transitions, and more of a fight than a wrestling match, but not in a sloppy brawl way. Wilcott is a guy i'd never seen before, but somebody I want to see more of. Kahagas won the NWA North American title and it was announced that he is the first triple crown (NWA World, National, & North American) winner in modern NWA history. ****

-Conway beat Chris "the former Masterpiece" Adonis. Good match. They started slow and built around Masters trying to lock in the Masterlock, and Conway working the figure four. Picked up towards the end, and one thing I should note is Masters did one of the best post match sell jobs i've ever seen. He looked half dead and made Conway look like a million bucks. He may have been knocked loopy legit, because he had a giant welt on his forehead. Masters has great charisma. He used his WWE entrance theme, which was cool. In the *** range.

-Damien Wayne vs Carson was a cool match too. I've always liked Wayne. He's a indie vet who always seems to pop up on shows I go to. Carries himself well and is a good heel act. Carson is a kid that caught my eye with ACW last year. It's obvious he has a look that will eventually get the attention of the national TV groups. This was a good classic babyface/heel match, with the crowd pulling for Carson. Carson had him beat but got distracted when another heel hit ringside to harass his valet, Barbi Hayden. Wayne hit his finish and won the match to retain his National title. In the *** range.

Overall, a really good show with only one bad match. Jax Dane is the big dude who went to Japan with Conway & Bruce Tharpe. His match just didn't work. Paul Boesch's wife & son were at ringside. Tugboat & Chaz Taylor were there. Bruce Pritchard was supposedly in the building scouting/talking to somebody that was on the show, but i'll leave that up to Biss is he wants to spill the beans because I don't want to talk out of school.

This is a stolen idea and not my own, but if the NWA is going to make this push to re-legitimize itself in the eyes of fans, Tanahashi should beat Conway for the title.

This accomplishes many things. On the NWA side, your world champion would be arguably the best wrestler in the world, and your tag team champions are now also arguably the best tag team in the world. No disrespect to any of these three men, but this is an obvious gigantic leap up from Tokyo Monster Kahagas & KOTU in the eyes of the fans.

On the New Japan side, this keeps Tanahashi occupied while the Okada title run gets room to breath. Tanahashi is a made guy, so winning what some consider a "lesser" title compared to the IWGP title won't hurt him one bit. Tanahashi can defend against New Japan upper mid carders & American imports underneath Okada's matches as strong semi main events or attractions.

I mean, it's so brilliant that it should be obvious. Tanahashi as NWA World Champion.
