Penn State's going to lose by 17-21. You don't expect a team starting a freshman quarterback to go into one of the most hostile environments in the nation and come out with a victory; especially against the defending BCS champions. That's damn near impossible, IMO.

Okay, I misunderstood. Still, people should realize what I said above; do you expect a team with a freshman quarterback to go into the national champions' stadium and come out with a win? You must be a huge homer or hater - depending on your team preference - to believe that.

I'm the biggest Robert Bolden optimist here, but he's going to struggle against Bama. I just want to see some nice plays from him to show what the Big Ten and the nation are in for later this year and in his career.

Former Hurricanes cornerback Glenn Sharpe has always maintained he wasn’t guilty of pass interference on Ohio State’s Chris Gamble on the controversial play in the 2002 national title game.

Apparently, a couple of Buckeyes think the same.

Sharpe told me in a phone interview Sunday that his former Atlanta Falcons teammate Michael Jenkins, Ohio State’s leading receiver in that game, ”used to say all the time, ‘Yeah man, Chris was like, ‘Man, you know that was no pass interference.’ But he was going to take it cause the ref gave it to him.”

Sharpe added, “I’ve been told by Jenkins that Chris admitted it himself that it wasn’t pass interference. Even Jenkins said that. He was like, ‘Yeah, they [the refs] got you.”

Sharpe said Jenkins, “is a stand-up guy” and “he wasn’t really trying to rub anything in my face.”

The Hurricanes appeared to have won the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, which decided the ‘02 title, for about three seconds after the incompletion in the end zone until Porter threw a flag.

Here’s a few more comments from Sharpe regarding the 2003 Fiesta Bowl:

— (on what a national championship would have meant) “Obviously, with that being my freshman year and me being from Miami, [winning the title] would have been a big moment. …To come into college and win a national championship your first year, it doesn’t get any better than that.”

— (on the few seconds between the ball hitting the turf and the flag being thrown) ”I was real ecstatic, but then I saw the dreaded flag come out and I was like ‘Ah, man.’ I felt like they had gotten over on me a little bit. But there was nothing I could do about it. That’s just the way the chips fell.”

— (on watching replay of the controversial call) “It took me a while to watch the play to be honest with you. Because I knew what happened and I was real disappointed about it. And I just didn’t want to keep replaying that in my mind because at the end of the day, he made that call and [the refs] have to deal with that. I would feel much worse if I actually did pass interference. But since I know I didn’t, it kind of frees my mind. I don’t feel as though I did anything wrong. I just feel I got a tough break.”

“I’ve only watched that play twice. The first time I watched it was to see if there could have been any type of reason for calling pass intereference. The second time I watched it, I tried to watch it to see what I could have done better, find something I could have improved on. But that was it.”

— “I felt we were robbed of a national championship — the whole team, not just me. It wasn’t that I thought, ‘Oh, they ruined my career’ or ‘They called a bad play on me.’ I was more concerned about the team. We busted our butts that year, we had a great team and I felt like we really deserved to win that game.”

— (on getting over the call in ensuing years) “Football is just like life. A lot of times, things aren’t going to go the way you expect. But the main thing is to try to learn from every circumstance and every situation and don’t let it affect how you view things or affect your attitude.”

Bama will roll (sorry Woy, facing a freshman QB is a wet dream for a Saban-coached D) Oklahoma and Florida State will both play sloppy but I think OU wins, and I have no idea how to call tOSU-Miami.

I'm pulling for the Canes in that one because I'd like to see them get back to their level, I think college football is more interesting when they are good. But I would like to see Pryor play well and ultimately be treated to a good game.

LSU is on the road at Vandy (sucks that we had to go all the way back to BR in between trips to Atlanta and Nashville since they are only two hours away from each other, but I digress). We should be able to jump out early again, but if we don't it could be a long game. Ultimately I think we pull it out 31-13 or somewhere along those lines. I need to see Michael Ford this game or I'm gonna be :smh: at Gary Crowton's offense even more. Gotta get Terrence Toliver more involved as well.

CORAL GABLES – Let’s be bluntly honest: The Horseshoe is over glamorized.
It isn’t intimidating. Nor is it much of a hostile environment.
Yes, it’s an impressively large stadium. And yes, it’s full of rich tradition — the dotting of the “I” is pretty cool.
But it’s not exactly a daunting place to play. The only reason ‘Canes players kept getting asked about it Tuesday, I suspect, is because it seats more than 105,000 (so yeah, there are more available voices to yell). But the Big House in Ann Arbor seats six digits, too. And that’s no house of horrors for opponents either.
The Horseshoe doesn’t come close to The Swamp in Gainesville or Neyland Stadium in Knoxville or a night game at LSU. Those places create a home-field advantage that makes a difference. In conference, Virginia Tech and Clemson are tougher places to play than The Horseshoe. FSU, for a Miami game, is too.
Just my thoughts. ‘Canes players have their own opinions.
Here is what a few of them said about playing at the Horseshoe:
— Adewale Ojomo: “To be honest with you when I go out there on the field I block it all out. I don’t even pay attention to the crowd. I’ve been at Florida, Texas A&M, a lot of big crowds.”
— Colin McCarthy: “I’ve been to a game there before. It’s a crazy atmosphere. We’re excited for the opportunity. We’ve played in games like that. We’ve played up at Florida.”
— Marcus Forston: “I’ve heard it’s a loud stadium, but once you go out there and do what you have to do, you can quiet the crowd.”
— Damien Berry: “I really don’t think it’s going to have an effect on us because wherever Miami is…[Young] Jeezy said it best, ‘We’re going to bring the whole city out.’ Everybody wants to come see us. They ain’t coming just to see Ohio State.”

"First and foremost, those Columbus fans, those Buckeyes, they know, they really know how to intimidate a team. Especially the young guys; they're very rowdy, they're very loud and they come out in an abundance. They are crazy from the start of the game on... (actually) the start of the week of the game, when you first come in and you are checking out the stadium you see all these people yelling at you, cussing at you, wearing that scarlet and gray, and they have that scarlet and gray in their eyes. Man this is more than a game, this is more than what I expected.

When the game starts and you run on the field and you hear the boos of 100,000 people... I mean it's crazy. Then Ohio State might get their first big play or touchdown... and man, I've never heard anything as loud as when Maurice Clarett came on the field. Now I know he might not be real high in columbus right now... but I've never heard anything as loud as when he came onto the field when we played in 2002 down at the Shoe and he had that 30 yard play, I've never heard anything that loud in my life. I couldn't hear myself think, I couldn't hear the playcalls, we were kinda guessing. And the last play of the game, when we ran all post routes and it got intercepted, that wasn't even supposed to be the play call. But it was so loud down there, Navarre couldn't hear, gave the wrong play call, and we ran the wrong route. And so it was an easy interception, so that's just an example of how it is down there."
