If they would've offered Scaife...say a 2mil a year deal, they could've saved themselves 2.4mil and a franchise tag. I don't think of Scaife in the same breath as Gates, Gonzalez, or Witten...but he will be paid like them.

I'm really not that upset about the strong possibility that Haynesworth is on his way out. I know that he is the most disruptive DT in the league....when he wants to be. I'm just not sure that if I trust him to "want to be" after he gets his money. I'm not sure if its a coincidence that his best two years were during "contract years". I'm sure we can all remember Albert's "mediocre" play during years 1-5. And thats another thing. He has 7 years in the league already. Thats a lot of mileage for a DT especially when every play at that position is an absolute train wreck. As much as I hate to lose him, I can't really blame the Titans for not wanting to tie up that much money in one player, even if that player is unstoppable when he gives it his all.

Albert's never played more than 13 games in a year and now hes 7 years in. Im kinda convinced we might be better off without him now.

i mean, what can you do with VY? you drafted him #1 and paid him, now he looks like he is the first woman to play in the nfl. you cant trade him, you will never get value for her and if you leave her in the back up spot she will jsut get more depressed.

Titans never pay big money to free agents so im not surprised Albert wanted to leave. Its been there way ever since moving to TN, they would just rather pay young guys and develop and let them walk away after 6 years.

I still have hope in Vince even though he is a terrible qb. But the Titans dont need a great qb. He just needs to learn that if he only has to contribute 10 times a game to keep the offense moving then we are good. but if he wants to still be a playmaker then we have a problem.

Carl Pickens and Yancy Thigpen fucked us for 10 years, the front office has been scared to pay a WR since them.


I dont care if its through the draft of FA, the titans needs one more decent WR. I know they arent a passing offense,but Gage and his 20 ypc would be even nicer if he had any semblance of a NFL WR on the other side of him. Lavelle Hawkins will never be anything more than a 3rd wr/slot guy and Brandon Jones get hurt more than Haynesworth let him walk too.





OT: Are you expecting big things out of Golden this year? I kept waiting and waiting for Patrick Turner to do something at USC and it never happened. Maybe Golden will make the Nashville area proud and blow up for ND this season.

As a whole i expect a lot out of ND next year. BCS bowl or failure imo. As for Golden Tate i expect huge things but there other receiver Michael Floyd is better. Golden just doesnt look like a natural wr but his talent should get him far. Atleast it will in college.

Golden has blazing speed, i know ND doesnt run the type of offense but I think he would be best suited for a Percy Harvin type role though.

Former AFL kicker Bironas now has security, 4-year deal

The Titans have locked up Rob Bironas, one of the NFL's elite kickers, for the next four years.
NASHVILLE, TN, Feb. 20, 2009 — The Tennessee Titans prize dependability in a kicker. Rob Bironas wanted to stay with the team that gave him his first chance in the NFL after the years he spent kicking away in the Arena Football League and working odd jobs including a desk job for his father.

Now he's not going anywhere.

The Titans signed Bironas to a four-year, $12 million contract with $5 million guaranteed in a deal reached Wednesday night, and the kicker said he was happy to avoid the franchise tag with its one-year promise.

"Seems like since I've been in this league it's been week by week with my first contract, then played the tender one year last year and would've been another one-year franchise deal," Bironas said Thursday. "I'm glad to have a little security and know that the Titans did what it took to put together a deal...and put four years ahead of me where I know I'll be playing in Tennessee."

The deal allowed the Titans to use the franchise tag on tight end Bo Scaife on Thursday afternoon a couple hours before the NFL deadline. The Titans also have 12 other players who become free agents on Feb. 27 — with defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and quarterback Kerry Collins the biggest names poised to hit the market.

But Thursday was a day to savor for Bironas, a kicker who was in camp with Green Bay, Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh. He spent two seasons in the Arena Football League and one in its minor league, the Af2.

Then Bironas got his chance with the Titans in 2005 and won the job. The Louisville, Ky., native has been making his mark ever since.

"Rob's worked hard, he's worked a long time. He started at kind of the bottom and worked his way up," Reinfeldt said. "He's gone to the Pro Bowl. He's one of the best kickers. It's kind of a cool story."

He beat Indianapolis in December 2006 with a 60-yard field goal, set an NFL record with eight field goals in one game on Oct. 21, 2007, and led the league with 35 field goals. He was voted an All Pro and to the Pro Bowl.

That earned him a one-year tender for 2008 for $1.47 million. He responded by tying for second in the AFC and seventh in the NFL with 127 points in 2008 when he connected on 29 of 33 field goals, including tying a team-record with 20 straight, and ranked second in the NFL with a career-high 22 touchbacks on 84 kickoffs.

Bironas now ranks as the NFL's fifth most accurate kicker all-time at 84.5 percent and fourth all-time in team scoring.

The job security just brings a different pressure.

"It's one of those things you succeed and you keep working harder. The road's never done until you're ready to give it up. The minute you lay back and relax a little bit is when it can be taken away. I worked hard to get here. I'm going to keep working hard to keep it," Bironas said.

"I'm excited today. It's a good day, good day for me, the organization and I look forward to winning how.

NASHVILLE, TN, Feb. 25, 2009 — The NFL’s unrestricted free agency period is scheduled to begin on Friday, February 27 at 12:01 a.m., ET. Projected to be under the NFL’s salary cap of $123 million, the Titans will be able to sign players from other teams whose current contracts have expired.

This will be the third free agency period under general manager Mike Reinfeldt, who was hired in February 2007. In his first two off-seasons, Reinfeldt led the effort to bring in free agent wide receiver Justin Gage (Chicago), cornerback Nick Harper (Indianapolis), linebacker Ryan Fowler (restricted free agent from Dallas), guard Jake Scott (Indianapolis) and defensive back/returner Chris Carr (restricted free agent from Oakland).

In 2008, the Titans lost a total of eight players as unrestricted free agents: guard Jacob Bell (St. Louis), running back Chris Brown (Houston), LB Gilbert Gardner (Detroit), tight end Ben Hartsock (Atlanta), defensive end Travis LaBoy (Arizona), defensive end Antwan Odom (Cincinnati), defensive tackle Randy Starks (Miami) and tight end Ben Troupe (Tampa Bay).

The Titans currently have 12 unrestricted free agents: Carr, quarterback Kerry Collins, defensive back Vincent Fuller, defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, punter Craig Hentrich, cornerback Reynaldo Hill, wide receiver Brandon Jones, cornerback Eric King, guard/tackle Daniel Loper, wide receiver Justin McCareins, cornerback Tyrone Poole and quarterback Chris Simms. The Titans do not have any restricted free agents this year, and they have only one exclusive rights player, linebacker Colin Allred.

Tight end Bo Scaife was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, but the team designated him as its franchise player. He may sign with other clubs, but the Titans would have the right to match any offer or receive compensation from his new club.

My take on this article...

There isnt a single player from those the titans let walk as 08 free agents im peeved about. I would loved to have kept Jacob Bell but StL gave him retarded money and our line played at a pro bowl level with Eugene Amano stepping up nicely and Jake Scott being brought in via Free agency. Scott was a double dip because we scooped him up from division rival Indy.

Our current free agents....
Kerry Collins- pay the man and bring him back

Vincent Fuller- Hes a good nickel/dime guy at CB and a great utility backup safety and special teams guy. I'd like to retain him if we can get him for a reasonable offer. His agent has gassed him up into thinking he's worth more than he is though.

Albert Haynesworth- so long, make your ridiculous contract somewhere else. It might hurt short term to see him leave but hes been just as much an injury prone headache in his 8 years in TN as a dominant player.

Craig Hentrich-If hes not retiring i'd love to have him back, pay him accordingly

Reynaldo Hill-hit the fucking road you injury prone bum, the years i suffered with him and Pacman as Tennessee's starting CBs are forever burned into my memory.

Brandon Jones-Its hard to say goodbye to someone with so much potential, but your injuries and whatever else kept you from ever reaching it. So long buddy, i wish you nothing but the best and i sincerely hope you can turn it around on another team.

Eric King-It was sad to see his season cut short by injury. If he is indeed healthy and willing to take veteran minimum or slightly over it I'd love to see him back. He was pretty decent in spot work as a starter when Nick Harper went down.

Daniel Loper- decent utility lineman, id like to see him back if the price is right

Justin McCareins-if the 6'3" softy is willing to play for 4th WR money then sure bring him back

Colin Allred-nice special teams guy, if he can stand to have the same role and similar pay then bring him back

Tyrone Poole-late season fill in, bye bye

Chris Simms- he thinks he can possibly start or at least be guaranteed the number2 job somewhere. So i think he should go and follow that dream.

Chris Carr-he is a GREAT kick returner, he filled in ok in nickel CB work when King, Hill, and Fuller were all hurt. He said he wants starting corner money, he wont get that in TN. Maybe some desperate team like Detroit will give him that IDK. If he wants the role of KR/PR and buried on the depth chart cb then i'd love to have him back in two tone blue.

Fuller, Hentrich and Loper are the only ones I really want to see back. Maybe add King too. I thought he filled in nicely. Collins and Fat Albert are asking for too much and the rest are .... whatever.

I'm also a Titan fan, so now we got four. I couldn't have said it better myself Herm, you summed everything up there. I'd like us to try to go after a Houshmandzadeh or even trade for Boldin, but you're right; even since Pickens and Thigpen, we won't push for wideouts.

The word this morning was TN was negotiating with former 2 gap Nose Tackle Chris Canty of the Cowboys to come in and play in our 43 scheme, he would have to be a nice player in a 43 and only be responsible for one gap right? I really think this guy clogging up the middle helped the Dallas DEs/OLBs put up those big numbers.

I really hope the titans sign him if the money is right.
