I am tired of hearing how the colts should have left their players in becuase in pulling manning they let the jets in and could possibly keep a few other teams out of the playoffs. it is not the job of the colts to get teams that have struggled down the strecth into the playoffs. if said team, lets take pittsburgh for example, had not lost to teams they should have beat, lets say the raiders, browns or chiefs for example, then they wouldnt have to count on someone else to get them into the dance. i dont like what the colts did, but how it affects other teams is not part of football or a reason for me or anyone else to be upset that they did it.

With that said, the body language and facial expressions of the players as Curtis Painter attempted to portray an NFL QB says it all. Had the Colts sideline been laregly indifferent to the loss, it would be another story, but the players were clearly unhappy and ultimately disappointed.

Caldwell should have either sat them from the start, yanked them much earlier (1st Q, like a preseason game), or waited for the game to be salted away. 15-10 mid way third Q with momentum up for grabs was the wrong time, and it clearly deflated his team.

And lets not forget that this silly game is ultimately played for the fans, who obviously dont agree with how this played out.

like i said, i dont agree with what they did at all. if they wanted to pull them, they should have just started painter. what really kills me in all this is the colts claim they did this because their goal is a SB title. with them doing this twice before and then failing to reach the super bowl you would think they have learned from their mistakes.

People are upset, it's natural . I can't agree on any level with idiots who want him fired .... the amount he's done for us and still doing for us is too much to even think about letting him slip away . Then people forget, his son is the next in waiting . You think his son will be any different when it comes to these policies?.... I doubt it . The fans got spoiled and wanted the perfect season, I don't blame them because it's the kind of thing that you can brag about for 50+ years ... but how quickly they forget what it was like to not have any superbowls and looking like we were never going to get past New England in the AFC .

I agree with this . I wonder what Monday or Tuesdays meeting was like . I doubt anything big would have happened but it would have been nice to be a fly on the wall

19-0 = overrated. The only GOAT time given out in a Colts 19-0 season would have been to Peyton. Theres not a unit or set of players on that team that would stack up to the all time great teams. Its the fact that Peyton is essentially the single deciding factor in every game , and for him to go 19-0 would be remarkable.

We have a first year coach, a first year defensive coordinator who has changed a lot of things about the D and a bunch of new players. Colts need all the meaningful reps they can get. Win or lose a 15-10 game against a the #1 D is a good learning experience.

Plus it's irritating hearing Polian say that 16-0 is meaningless because it's been done twice. Then hearing him say that he left the starters in against Jax because the most wins in a decade and the 23 game win streak meant a lot to him. Nah because no way it was Caldwell's decision alone.

Polian's philosophy has always been to rest players. Then you can throw in that Caldwell already admitted to asking Dungy (who also loves resting players) for advice on this.

Caldwell's a first year guy who's never coached an NFL team before. So I'm more likely to believe it was the guys involved who have a have a history of doing things like this, over him.

I've seen people make the argument and have made it myself before that the 1973 team was better than the 1972 team.

That argument aside I'd say most of those Steeler's teams in the 70's were better, most of the 49ers teams in the 80's were, the 85 Bears, those early 90's Dallas teams, etc.

Yeah there's a ton of people going way overboard with it. Saying they're done with the team. Some guy turned in his Colts license plate for a normal one. Asking for Polian to get fired.

Every playoff team thinks they have the best front end in football.

There aren't many people who would trade there "great" GM for Polian, Newsome, etc... except maybe Cleveland, Detroit and St. Louis.

but in regards to the whole thing. Personally I tried thinking what I would want as a fan if the Ravens (although would never happen) went 14-0/15-0. I think I'd be greedy and want both the undefeated streak and the superbowl. Specially when my QB is 2nd all time for most consecutive games played (Peyton)... obviously he isn't getting injured anytime soon.

But I have come to realize that the NFL is no longer a "fan" sport. Fans pack the stadiums to watch there team win. I would never go to a game if I knew we weren't going to give our all and try and win. I would never attend the game if I knew we would play our scrub team against the best defense in the league and lose, whether it was for a undefeated streak or if we only had 3 wins.

Fans go to see there team win, not to see them fold. Fans pay all that money to see W's not L's, no matter if it's only 1 or 10.

the reason it would have been the GOAT is because it's the salary cap era (or was, if they dont get their shit together, but thats for another thread) and its so hard to win a football game. terrible teams routinely upset big teams because the current system is perfect for competetive balance minus the lack of rookie payscale. the 72 dolphins almost shouldnt even be talking, because they played in an era where you could pay steve young to be the best quarterback in football on the bench and there wasnt anything he could do about it.

Now, I agree with Polian somewhat that the win streak may almost mean more, but thats a tribute to him and his coaches for keeping a talented roster. an undefeated team is a tribute to this seasons team, the players, more than it is the front office.

and if the colts dont win the superbowl, there will be even more hell to pay. the Patriots fell one game short, as Tedy Bruschi put it, "because the giants played better football that day, not because we were tired." Better to keep momentum going than kill your teams spirit and screw up 9 months of continuously building momentum. I'd be more worried about my team being rusty than I would be about them being tired. these are grown men who are the best at what they do. If they are too tired to win every game they could possibly play, they shouldnt be playing.
