Update:Â The Blazers and Hibbert have reportedly reached a verbal agreement on a maximum four-year, $58 million contract, the Oregonian reports.

Recommendation:Â It's a bold move by Portland, but since Hibbert is a restricted free agent, the Pacers will have 72 hours to match the Blazers' offer once it's signed, which can't happen until July 11. Indiana matching the offer seems like the likely outcome here, but we'll let you know if that assessment changes.

The Pacers are in a bad spot, because they have talent, but as a collective whole it's above average, which is the problem. They don't have an elite franchise type of guy that you generally need to win a championship, but the guys they have will garner a lot of money, because they're good. Hibbert is a nice player, but at this point he's just another role player. He has his moments, but he isn't impactful and rarely influences the outcome of a game........much like the rest of the players on their roster.

They're going to be like the 90's Cavs.
 
How fitting that Big Roy, who I always thought was better than that big stiff Oden when they were in college at the same time, could potentially replace Oden in Portland.
 
Hibbert went into beast mode in the playoffs. He's earned his money. I disagree with the idea that he is just a role player. he is crucial to the team and a player who may have shifted into another gear and could stay there. I really though Indiana could beat Miami, that is a scary, well balanced team that is not going anywhere but up for the next few years. They HAVE to match.
 
I wonder if they will have the space to retain George when the time comes, I am tentatively guessing no assuming he gets a Batum-like offer.
