Pacers sign SG Jones
Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - The Indiana Pacers signed shooting guard Dahntay Jones on Tuesday.
Jones, known as a defensive specialist, became a free agent after a productive season for the Denver Nuggets last year. The Duke product averaged just over 18 minutes per game, logging 5.4 points and 2.1 rebounds while starting 71 of 79 regular season games.
Jones also started all 16 playoff bouts for Denver, upping his averages to 7.0 points and 2.4 boards a game before the Nuggets bowed to the Lakers in the Western Conference finals.
"Dahntay gives us defense and versatility," said Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird. "We have talked about being more athletic and being better defensively and Dahntay helps us immediately in both areas. He's a good fit for what we are trying to build here."
The 28-year-old spent his first four seasons in Memphis before one-year stints in Sacramento and Denver. In 325 career games, the 20th overall pick in the 2003 Draft has logged 5.1 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.
