Went and seen the movie tonight, Zombieland only had two showings at my theater. I missed both of them by the time I got to looking at show times. So I chose this movie over Surrogates.
The story takes place in a futuristic Earth. The planets natural resources and space is becoming dangerously low. World leaders have scoured the galaxies for centuries trying to find a habitual planet. Finally the Earth finds Tarvanis, a planet 125 years away. Tarvanis contains plant life, water, everything the Earth has. Finally, some hope for Earth.
It didn't take long to get the eerie feeling of "Alien" pulsing through my veins.
We embark on the journey. As a reactor specialist, CPL Bower (Ben Foster) is awoke from his cryogenic slumber. What he awakes to, is a ship without power and no flight crew around.
It takes CPL Bower some time to gather his senses and find his way through the dark ship. This isn't an easy task as CPL Bower is suffering from acute memory loss, from the cryogenic slumber. It's not long until he finds his C.O., LT Payton. (Dennis Quaid). Awakening from his own cryogenic sleep.
The two of them decipher that they are the flight crew, teams of three sleeping periodically through the journey. Taking shifts piloting the space craft. The only problem is, no one woke up Payton, and Bower. Their third, Cooper. Has gone missing as well.
With LT Payton staying near the bridge and transmitting via a comm link. CPL Bower begins his journey to uncovering the mystery of this settlement shift. Slowly the ship's dark and shocking past become a horrifying reality.
Once the pieces start fitting together this film hits high gear, and stays there.
I won't ruin any more of the story, this film is a must see for Sci-Fi Horror lovers. If Sci-Fi is not your thing and you're just looking to be scared? It accomplishes that as well.
A great story, balanced with just enough action. There's also enough plot twists to keep you guessing until the final twist throws you for a loop.
I give it a 8.0/10.
